I pulled the 170 I6 and am installing a 302 V8 out of a Early 70's ford bronco and I have afew questions.

Im a novice so bear with me

I got a edelbrock carb/performer rpm intake used pretty cheap and I am going to be running it. I figured out how to install it by printing off the directions but I have afew other issues that I dont know about.

    1. There are two ports on the front of the carb that I believe are related to the advance on the distributor (has two ports also). What goes where

    2. I have a c4 transmission that I am using the falcon parts adapter for. Where do I run the vacuum line that goes into the back of it to? Directly to the back of the intake manifold perhaps?

    3. The starter appears to be rubbing on a steering connecting rod that im unsure of the name of. Are people doing this swap getting some type of smaller diameter starter?

    4. I broke my dipstick holder. any advice on where to find a new one or should I try one of those universal ones.

    5. What type of radiator should I use, and should I get one that has the transmission cooler ports on it, or run and aux. transmission cooler.

    6. I have headman shorty headers. The outlet of the drivers side comes out right where a steering component is. Do i modify the header, modify the steering, or go with a different brand.

    7. Petronix 2, points, msd or DUI what is easyist, most reliable and cost effective

Im just learning, I can take pictures of things if it would help some of you help me.

What motor mounts are you using first of all? As far as the dipstick you can get a universal one or just about anyone off another 302 in the junkyard.
As far as the radiator, 63 1/2 Falcons and Comets came stock with V8's, those should be a bolt in deal. I cant help you with much else without more info and / or pics..

1 use drivers side, block other
2 There should be a fitting on the back that has vacuum tuts on it use 1 of them, brake booster hose goes there also
4 302 dipstick tube from front sump engine
    5 I'd use both
    7 pertronix

1- Highest port on front of carb to vacuum advance on dizzy.
    2-Correct.
3-Try Mustang 2 V-8 starter. The correct one for Mustang 2 is smaller. Shim motor mounts to frame brackets for clearance.
4-Ford dealer or junkyard. Aftermarket will be ok if you make sure to get the length of the tube the same as the old tube.
5-V-8 Comet, Falcon, or Mustang radiator. Use external trans cooler.
6-Search for V-8 Falcon or Comet headers in manufacturer's catalogs, or modify the ones you have for clearance.
7-Ford Duraspark. It is cheap and bulletproof.

Thanks for the quick replys. I found a v8 radiator out of a 64 comet that im going to have reworked by a friend. so #5 is solved. #2 is solved. #1 I have a distributor that has 2 ports on the front of it. As i understand your replys the one that advances the distributor goes to the port on the drivers side...but where does the other one go? is it just a vent?

Most any pre roller cam 302 will work. Most of the brain boxes have a blue grommet where the wires exit the box. There are also systems that used a yellow grommet, and others that used a white grommet...stay away from those. You aren't apt to find a setup that used the yellow or white grommet box, but if you do, go to the next case, because replacement boxes for those are hard to find. Blur grommet boxes are everywhere for cheap.

I use '66-'70 Mustang frame and engine mounts. The center rib on the shock towers has to be cut off and plated. '65-'66 Mustang tri-Y headers will fit, but they are tight. I slot the holes in the engine mounts, and while everything is bolted in the car, but loose, I slide the engine over to the right until the headers clear the steering box.

  11. Comets and Falcons are the same car. You can put Comet sheet metal on a Falcon. But I am not sure of 62s. Headers Headman makes some for 63 falcons but they are not a exact fit. Radiators are the same for Falcon, Mustang and comet. Motor mounts! you need the adapter for a 63 V8 Falcon. Lower control arms are the same as mustang. What is different is the link between the steering arm and the idler arm Falcons, Comets are 2 1/4 in narrower between the frame rails. As far as the steering arm hitting you will need the one from a V8 63 Falcon. as well as the Idler arm from same car.
    I have a 1963 1/2 Original V8 4 speed Falcon ranchero as well as a 19641/2 Comet Cyclone V8 4 speed
    Good luck

use the largest rad you can get, mustang has a 3 flu. the rib on the shock tower should not have to be removed, I like petronix for ease of use, but the duraspark is bullet proof. Crites in ohio makes headers and they fit. had a 351 in a falcon and it was a one man ,1 hr job to install. go to ford six, or tffn and you can find answers there also.
