looking at options for Lil Beast...looking to see what the general m***es have used for body to frame dampining....i'm trying to get as thin as possible and still have a reasonable amount of padding between the body and frame....hope to be about 1/4"-1/2"....also what stock for flooring frame work??? 1/2" square tubing??.thanks.......
Got any old tires lying around? The sidewals, cut to the shape/size you want, work fine. you can double them up if they're too thin...
I bought a 2" x 48" long strip of polyurethane from McMaster-Carr that was 1/2" thick. Cut it up into 2" squares and drilled for the mounting bolts.
I went to Napa and looked through one of their catalogs of rubber parts and found some rubber feet that are supposed to be mounted under tables to keep them from shifting, they already have holes in em and mount super easy...they worked swell in my '31...as for floors, I always use 1x1 16 gauge wall tubing (sometimes 14 gauge if I get a good deal)...
Mud flaps and a hole saw. You can stack them to adjust the body. Keep in mind, once you tighten the bolts, you have little or no movement, so the material doesn't make much difference. You basicly have a solid mount. The only way you get any real vibration damping is to use pads top and botom as well as inbetween, and use springs on the bolts like a lot of old trucks did. I use 3/4 or 1/2 sq tube to frame floors, generally both and 18 ga. for the floor it's self, with beads rolled
Use 3/8th well nuts,,, Lots of them, I used 7 per side on a customers 38 pickup. Drilled thru the subrails into the frame (5x), and put 2 more into the crossmember. http://www.mcmaster.com/#93495a441/=31r6m6
good link.....tell me more about the truck.....what was the vibration like???basicly isolates top and bottom, and is very thin compressed....looks good to me...just trying to get away from the harsh rattles...........
The trucks off to body shop and not finished. They seem to dampen a lot of the bang when I hammer on the floor. No squeaks or rattles when shaking it and the cab is not coming off without removing the bolts. You could hear the pop and tink of things pulling under tension when tightening the bolts too. Pretty sure its not going anywhere! I've used the smaller ones for years in drag car where you dont have access but need to screw something together. Door panels, rear windows that kind of thing. Never had any problems with them other than they need to be snugged back down after a few weeks of use. It doesnt happen to all of them and only has to be done once.
I found that custom oil field gasket makers will give you the s****s for nothing. You can get all kinds of thickness from 1/16 to 1 inch and it lasts great and cuts easily. It also makes great hood and door bumpers. Hope this helps.
get a rubber roller off a boat trailer.cut to length.put it on and go.beware;if you use a chop saw it stinks
