I know what it is... Expansion Tank/Reservoir/surge tank, but when I go looking for one is there a technical part name? Also... I know this was used on a number of different Ford models, but how'bout year range?
1962 T bird Service manual calls it a Radiator Supply Tank. I don't have a parts book. I think you'll find them used all thru the 60s
most i have seen are on 63 64 galaxies ! and i just took a closer look at the pic , if that is in your possesion and is truly a tri power 406 you are one lucky sob !
dirtbag31: don't I wish! The pic was pilfered from this board. manyoldcars: sorry, not a 'traditional' build
It's also known as the High Dollar Tank cause they were used on the 427 Cobras !! So every kit kar needs one !! And to add to the demand of these they had a Date Code on them too !!! >>>>.
Not much danger... after looking at one I realize its not going to work. I thought it had hose ******s on both sides. Anyone know of something similar?
Do you want it to fit in the upper radiator hose? so it would have a big inlet hose and a big outlet hose?
E type jags have a tank that has two large inlets... I think they have a small tube out the bottom too, but that might vary by the year.
C1AZ - 8A080-A C6MY - 8A080-A B8SZ - 8A080-A Expansion tank is the correct part name. But these are all FE motors. The tank neck bolt into the intake manifold. Are you looking for one the goes in line between two hoses? Do you need a tank as well or just a filler neck in line? If you need just the filler neck only, the Mustang II of the 74-78 vintage with a 302 has that inline in the upper rad hose. The '95 and up Cobra uses a "Degas Bottle" that bolts on the fender well and serves inline in the upper hose with radiator fill and cap..
Yeah... I'v seen an in line filler on later model Dodge trucks too. Thats a way to go... but added capisity can't hurt. Thats why I thought of the tank. I would need something slim like that, but with in/out hose ******s. I had forgotten about the XKE unit, but it may be a bit thick for the applicatation.
The Jag unit maybe the way to go. Get chumy with the parts guy at the dealership and see if he'll let you look at what they have in the parts bins.
not to beat a dead horse, and without comment on this vehicle... this guy seems to have what I need. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=725020&d=1249482604
Buy a tank and take it to a radiator shop and they can put the hose inlet and outlet where ever you need them. What the hell is the chain for on that **** box rat rod? Doc.
This would be a pretty straightforward thing to make. A pressure cap boss, inlet and outlet hoses, some mounts... Speedway sells the fill necks in aluminum: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Billet-Aluminum-Radiator-Neck,1838.html How about something like this? (just a mock-up, the proportions need to be fiddled with)
I've seen guys do that on muscle cars.... its so their super-duper high horsepower engine doesn't twist itself all the way around
