The wife is wanting to learn how to pinstripe I bought her a can of white one shot and a "0" brush are there any good online vids she can watch, or any tips you can give her??? Thanks
Get anything from Herb Martinez....his books are good, he has a video out too. I attended a seminar at SoCal Speed Shop not long ago and I learned ALOT from Herbie, great guy and a damn good striper.
I used a clear plastic clipboard with graph paper behind it. This helped me know where to start an stop. Also clean it with Denatured Alcohol this will take the static that plastic builds. Static will pull paint off the brush. Denatured Alcohol will not "frost" or mar up the surface, it will keep it clear. Slide the paper under the holder an tape the bottom down then stripe away.
get her a 00 the single will fatten up really quick unless she got a really light hand. aside from practice, practice, and practice more try having her read through this.... http://www.rockyburris.com/Pinstriping_Lessons/lesson_1_learninghowtolearn.aspx if you have a local striper/sign painter have her talk to them...i recently met a guy whos been in the buisness for 40 odd years and buggin him when its slow has helped way more than anything else(bring a 6er or 12er if they drink! you get more knowledge that way)
Thanks guys. She went out to the 62 last night and gave it a try (as did I) Damn is this tuff stuff!!!! Thanks for the links she is very happy now!!! Tomorrow she is hitting up the local paint store to buy some more paint, pretty soon everything around the house including the cats *** will be pinstriped
post some pics when she does start to strip oh i mean stripe lol but really we would love to see some of her work good or bad and good luck with it
i can't stripe but i used these guys when i was trying to learn upholstery i rented from these guys instead of buying it's cheaper 10.00 bucks a week and you can burn copies. http://smartflix.com/store/video/844/Wizards-Dagger-Pinstriping
Kafka has some DVD's you can buy. Get them, beginner and intermediate are incredible sources of information. Start with the basic drills, as his vids will teach you there are 5 "moves" in pinstriping, that you combine to create a design. Don't bother trying designs until you have the 5 down pretty good (1000 times each!) Then, any book you can find to read, and like said earlier find someone who has been doing it a while. Even if they don't "help" you, just watching you can pick up a lot. Keep an eye on how they hold the brush and how they make turns.
