I got my driveshaft today. When I was measuring for it I found a groove on each side where the rear caps sit. I thought those might be the locating tabs.. I guess they wern't. The u-joint slid threw untill I clamped them down on both sides. Do I have to change the rear universal joint?? Thanks.. Al

Got any Pics that we could look at? Sounds like just a different style but hard to tell without a pic.

yes, you need an inside clip U joint. Precision number 319 will probably work.

Here you go.. Could that be the tab that is thick?? It looks like a grove. If you need better pictures of the yoke?? Let me know. I still have the car jacked up.. Al

Well, a 319 won't work on that one. Looks like someone removed the locating tabs on that yoke.

Ok let me get this straight. You bought a new driveshaft and it came with a new U-joint? And now the new U-joint will not locate in the center of the rear yoke? Do the old U-bolts that clamp down on the U-joint have locator tabs in them? Not sure about an inside clip style, the yoke doesn't look flat enough on the inside edge for that.

The more I think about the more I think the locating tab should be on the U-bolt. Normally they are a bent down tab on the outside edge of the U-bolt.

I talked with the place that built the driveshaft. They said that it looks like someone ground the tabs down. Maybe for a longer, or bigger u-joint. Anyways I pulled the five bolts that hold the front on and pulled it out. The driveshaft place will replace the yoke for a good one. Then I can reinstall it. The place said to watch out for the shim pack. All there was was one steel washer, or gasket on it. I also wrote on the car that the smaller bolts go on the bottom.. When I reinstall.. Should I use any of that RV sealant around the case??

What color should I use. I think Black is for gaskets.. Or would I need it for something else??
