Anyone out there know where the "Red Baron" custom is? I caught a music video with a car that was either the original or a very good clone. I showed it to a buddy and now he keeps asking if it was the real deal in the video...

ooo...ooo I know too Eric, tried to get it from sr then jr ten years ago, zingers are there to?

  6. Sounds like there was more than one Red Baron. The one I first thought of was the T-Bucket with a helmet.

I was under the impression that the car the model was built from burnt up in a garage fire shortly after it was built. I have seen a few nice clones, one with a sbc in it, and that ratty one that was at viva but i think the O.G one is no more.

That model kit was *everywhere* in the 70's !

  14. The original design was another Tom Daniels cl***ic.
The full scale car was built after the success of the model kit and the Hot Wheels versions. I think Chuck Miller built it for Bob Larrive's (spelling??) car show company.
It did the rounds of the show circuit again a couple of years ago.
There are a few imitators doing the rounds as well. I've got pix of a V8 version here somewhere. The Chuck Miller version is powered by a Pontiac OHC 6. The helmet on this version was painted silver because it was too large for any chromers to dip at the time. (Aaah...useless trivia!!)

The Monogram kit has just been re-issued with some fresh TD artwork.
The Hot Wheels was re-released last year (with black paint) as part of their "Since '68" series.

    Cheers,PJ

Guido in San Mateo has one (a clone) some sort of straight 8 I think? He's in Gearhead magazine with it a few months back...

I've got a copy of that mag at home, but I can't remember if it said anything about where the original is now. I do have new repro Hot Wheels of it on my shelf here at work though.

that's what I thought Moriarity but I was starting to second guess myself. I read it in one of my emails from him when it first happened.
