Visited an old-time salvage yard in Ohio today. Mostly late '30s thru '60s stuff, lots a good parts. Took a few pics but there was a big dog running around raising hell.
I can't believe some one let thet T-Bird Sport Roadster set in a field like that! That's some high dollar stash there bubba!
That T-Bird is kinda' rusty but mostly complete from what I could see. I can find out more about it if you are interested. From what I’ve heard, the yard’s original owner passed away about twenty five years or so ago. His widow closed the place and simply left everything just as he left it. I remember the place from a long time ago. There used to be several thousand cars and trucks there, and a large number of old farm tractors and implements too. Most of the trucks, tractors and the most derelict of hulks are gone now. A lot was scrapped out when scrap was high, and a number of the best vehicles were sold off to collectors, restorers and rodders. Most of the scrapped stuff was too far gone to do anything with. Maybe close to a thousand cars still there.
With the "Cash for Clunkers" now going on, just think of all the fine junk that will be sent to scrap. In a short time, no motors or transmissions will be available for rebuilding and the used parts yards will be history. Folks will need to buy a second car just to have extra parts. It really is SAD!
Thankfully it is for '84 and up vehicles! But in the grand scheme of things how many future classics have we lost too this program. Not to mention viable drive trains and their components. X426X - The back set cover on that Sport Roadster is work a couple of thousand if it is half-way decent shape. You are to see if you can secure it and turn it for some quick cash!!!
Thanks for the heads up on that T-bird. I’ll try to get back down there and check it out. The CFC scam sets a terrible precedent where for the first time in history, the feds actually go out of their way to destroy older vehicles for political purposes. It hurts the used vehicle, auto parts and repair businesses, and creates an artificial new vehicle sales “bubble” (kinda' like they did with housing). Now its probably not too much of a leap for ’em to someday go after anything built pre-FMVSS/EPA in the name of safety, green and/or just politics. Heard someone estimated almost half of the fed’s mulah spent on the clunker scam goes just for overhead: another new NHTSA bureaucracy, offices, computers, phones, equipment, supplies, advertising, travel, meetings, testing, polling, research, presentations, symposiums, bureaucratic bonuses and promotions, contractors, etc, etc. Would anyone be surprised if each clunker deal actually cost the U.S. taxpayers (and descendants) $10,000.00? $20,000.00? $50,000.00 or more?
hey anyway you could tell me where this yard is? im in the cincinnati area and would love to check it out....... is any of the stuff for sale?
Are these places really that rare out there? That looks like any random West TX backyard to me. I'm really not trying to be a dick or start a fight, I know I'm new here, but that could be any field in any small town within an hours' drive of me.
In regard to the CFC program....when the local county passed an ordinance for having a limit on vehicles some years ago, all of the excess vehicles had to get scrapped. What the JY did, was crush everything they had to make room for the "new" stuff coming in. So with the CFC program, how many yards are going to crush what they already have to make room for the 25 year old and newer cars/trucks? I'd pull the Tbird just for saving it.
That place looks like a yard a little north on me in Logan county that I was last in back in the mid 90s,it had a bunch of cars on their sides but I did not see any in the pics so its probably not the same place.
A men to that. My wifes family is from west Texas and I love to go out that way and check out the fields. There are many fields full of old iron from the metroplex to Lubock. We usually go the back way and stay off the interstate.
Pogue......you can count yourself luck if you have yards like that around you. They are crushing em up around here and closing the wrecking yard over here.
I haven't been up north much but I know out west (TX, CO, NM, AZ, etc.) 40s and 50s crap is everywhere. As soon as you get out of any town start looking to either side of the highway it's just lined up on the fence. Nothing rusts for the first 50 years you leave it out here, but the paint goes to shit in about 2 years. How can they make you destroy whats on private property unless you are in a HOA? (Which are extremely rare around here)
Also, as a side note, that T-bird would be considered unsaveable by some around here due to the excessive amount of rust in the back. Weird but true.
which explains the rust but not how local govt can tell you what you can and cannot have have on your property. Again, not trying to be a dick, I just haven't been in that area much. Under what pretense could a local governing body tell you that you have to destroy your personal property? Is it considered environmental hazard due to the fluids? Is it some kind of BS zoning laws? This appears to out in the country, who would tell you to get rid of your own cars? Can they make you get rid of anything or is it auto related? I am looking at moving this year and didn't even think about things like this.
Mr. Brick owns the property and its located in NW Ohio. He is one of the few good guys left and his phone number is 740 528 2730. MODERATORS, I am NOT affiliated with this yard nor am I trying to make any money by posting the pics or telephone number. Just trying to connect what might be some hard to find parts with folks who might need them. I'm just a fucking new guy on here and still trying to figure why its OK to call Ryan a fag, publicly call sanctioning body officials pussies and post pics of Linda's and Pam's titties, but its NOT OK to identify somebody's '35 Graham for 'em, or tell someone "nice pic"???? Seems kinda' like a fucked up place but the main idea is cool, maybe I'll learn...
The t-bird is not a sport roadster, just a regular '66 convertible, and while its worth saving, its not a terribly valuable car.
i got a old yard like that near me, it's cool to walk around in. To bad the guy thinks everything in it is made of pure platinum
i had a reply removed cause the word h..... e.... c ..... k was at the start of it ???? who was the moderator a 75 year old spinster librarian ?? nice pictures of the yard , vintage tin is cool
The yard is not open to the public, by appointment only. Call Mr. Brick for an appointment 740 528 2730. A real nice guy and one heluva bracket racer, he also does award winning restorations, race and show car builds.
