Sorry bud, I'm not passing anywhere near Omaha on my way home. See ya at the HAMB Drags. Thanks for the invite though.

I will probably see him and the Inliners BBQ tomorrow night.

Will stop in their pits, say hi and take some photos.

At this point I like free on the HAMB for my buds.

    Not this year.

WOW, you could be right, that really makes sense.

Backseat is really, really small bud. You wouldn't be too comfortable.

I am pretty sure that the street driving fuel tank is the same one that won an award at a local show here in july. The front suspension is adjustable so he can negotiate any bumps, cool car.

The 2120 tank is pictured on the SCTA site but no speeds are shown for it. Apparently they did not run yesterday. Results are posted on the SCTA site.

Hey Denise, hope you are having a blast! Would love to go to Bonnie someday. If I'm not mistaken, the Ty-Rods are from Mass. They have a big meet every year.

So,you makin it to Jersey for Lead East this year? That is one show you have to put on your list.I think BobK is driving his 51 Chevy out this year.

    Be safe!

From what I understand they did not pass tech. They are trying to fix things this week but there is alot they need to do.

Since I'd like a ride in it I will make it a point to introduce myself to him and mention I know you and you said to say hi.:D

Once I get home from this trip I am out of vacation time so I won't be attending BUT since it is the weekend before the Tyrod's event I will attend next year on my way to Mass.;)

  13. Well Denise you've done it again. You've published another work of art bringing us less fortunate on a trip that makes it seem as if we were there. I always look forward to your trips and your narration of the events at hand. I'm thankful nothing has happened to Big Olds on this trip. See you at Turkey Run if you're there ..

From: Around Wendover, An Examination of the Antrhopic Landscape of the Great Salt Lake Desert Region, published By the Center for Land Use Interpretation (CLUI)
CLUI have a hut at Wendover

"Tree of Utah is an artwork constructed in 1981 by the Swedish artist Karl Momen. It has been said that he was moved to create the 87 foot tall tree by the "vastness and relative emptiness" of the Bonneville Salt Flats, and that the tree "brings space, nature, myth and technology together." The tree's six spheres are all coated with natural rock and minerals found within the state of Utah, and the pods below symbolize the changing of the seasons, when trees naturally transform themselves. The cost of building the tree, reportedly over a million dollars, were provided entirely by Mr. Momen".

I prefer the salt structure version suggested by someone else.

    Denise,
Enjoying this post! Thanks so much! (PS You were staying 500 feet from a 100+ year old cat house in Evanston - thus the name of the bar on the Best Western sign "Legal Tender" - true story)

    Saturday Aug 8th

The morning started early as we wanted to get to the start line for the drivers meeting. A quick drive thru Micky D's was in order
    [IMG]

I decided to just leave Big Olds at the Motel this morning so I rode with Nick and Gary, his Dad.

Poteets Stramliner was positioned to go first once the racing started
    [IMG]

    The tower
    [IMG]

Lots showed up for the drivers meeting per usual...

    ...including lots of HAMB folks
    [IMG]

Once the meeting was over everyone was allowed to driver their cars down the course. Bob AKA: Animal Ain had an extra seat in his roadster. How lucky am I!!

Lots of HAMB guys blowing down the course
    [IMG]

Hanging out at the HAMB meet & greet area which we've dubbed "Dooley's Corner" and will refer to this area, where the pits end and the spectator area begins at around the 5 mile mark, as such in the future.

We then decided to head to the start line
    [IMG]

Ran into HAMB member GasPumper and the car he's crewing on
    [IMG]

It was neat to watch them get the car ready to run.

They were kind enough to explain the cool can process and how and why it works.

On the way back to "Dooley Corner"

Was just about time to hook up with the Strange Days crew for dinner so I got a ride to the motel from Animal Ain, thanks bud! Then headed over to the Nugget in Big Olds. Checked out a few cars while there
    [IMG]

and after dinner checked ot some more cars and chatted with lots of HAMB pals.

Walked back to Big Olds to get a drink outta the cooler and came upon a "love note" on the front seat......how exciting.

and shortly thereafter Dan aka Duffman came up and introduced himself to me. Had a really nice time hanging out.

He mentioned he had something he picked up for me and would give it to me the next day. He did but we didn't get a snapshot of it so I thought I'd post it here. He was in an antique store and saw this vintage scrapbook with unused pages in it and picked it up for me! How cool is that? A hot rod guy that I don't even knows actually read and comprehended that I'm into scrapbooking and thought I might like it. Thanks bud! and like we discussed I'm going to use it for a few of my Hot Rod Yellowstone adventures printing the photos as if they were taken in the 60's cuz that the feel I get from the scrapbook. If anyone can nail down a more specific date for this scrapbook, please let me know. Thanks again sweetie, I'm looking forward to showing the finished product to you next year in the Nugget parking lot while we eat sticky buns ;)

Ok, back to more parking lot activities

Again, another late night hanging out in the Nugget parking lot.

    Just curious.

  28. Great coverage Denise (and Nick)!! Thanks a ton from us 'workin' hands'. You need a 'PRESS' badge clipped to your hat....'excuse me...comin' through....outta the way please....'.:D See y'all in Joplin. Ol' TP.

  29. I'd guess its because everyone in the US can identify with certain foods, mention whitecastle, sonic or in-n-out to someone in the US and most of us will smile knowingly.

I'd guess a few aussies would nod at the site of vegemite on toast.

    Now back to the SALT

Have you run into Mike Lefever's "Mitech" pit yet? I guarantee you'll get a bear hug :D

I hope he hits his number, he has a lot of time in the car.
