Well I kinda got a hankerin' to build a 57 ford f100, so i started thinking about one that was here back in high school. I checked a local repair shop/salvage yard and sure enuff i found that same truck! Here are the details 57 custom cab, short wide bed,292 3 speed w/OD still in very good shape, has extra chome grill and one door, has a 59 hood instead of 57. has been sitting since 96 but under a carport oh yeah did i mention a big back window! seller says he wants $2000.00 what do you guys think?

1957 ford trucks are not a hard find, but a rust free one is. A short bed, big backwindow is the cat's ass. If the body's in nice shape(floors, cab mounts, doors, bed!) and its complete yes $2000 not a bad price. The overdrive is nice option. I spent around a $1000 getting my 1959 into running driving condition after it sat in a barn for 25 years.

I looked it over pretty hard friday and didn't find anything too scary,it's kinda cool that I new this truck 30 years ago in high school I thought it was crushed by now, He said he could get it running and i'm sure that the brakes need rebuilt along with the clutch master cyl.

I paid 2k for my 57. Running, driving, stopping, and no rust. If it's THE truck you want, get it.

If nothing else it makes for a good story you can tell for the rest of your life if you pick it up. Sounds like you need a pat on the back and, "Go ahead and get it buddy." If it's what you want, get it. Screw the rest of us.

Up front, never indicate to the seller your thoughts; If you want the item, offer half what he's asking, but only if you have the cash because usually that's what it's going to sell for. Be patient. Make your offer, then wait a month.

If it's running, that's not a bad deal! Check the rust though!

  12. A '57 Ford pickup for $2000 should be ready to put on the show field and compete for trophies, especially if it has a six in it. '57 through '66 Ford trucks in less than perfect shape are barely worth their weight in scrap, unless you need a 9" rear with a 5x5.5" bolt pattern.

I wouldn't let a guy sit for a month. I've seen people trash them. Because they couldn't sell them. If it's a fair price go for it .It doesn't hurt to offer him less. But dont insult the guy.

2K Really isn't a bad price if it's as nice as it seems. Clean papaerwork is a big selling point as well. It's been sitting so I'd try and make sure the registration is either current or at least on a current non-op. I've seen nice clean rolling shells go for about a grand so $2000 for something you could do a little freshening up on and have a drive is a pretty fair deal.

I happen to have a weakness for 57 short widebox big back windows myself. I've found a few around here but rusty non-running ones are asking $800. If its something you really want offer $1450 and let him negotiate from there. Good Luck, Mike.

    Pretty arbitrary...
Ya ain't noticed the prices going up, huh?:D

You can change that bolt pattern pretty easy, too...

Right now, if it runs and is rust free, it ain't bad...but I'd want all my body panels, doors and all.
Hell...Dennis Carpenter wants over $ 400.00 for the Tail gate...pay attention, folks...these trucks are gaining...;)

if you have a "hankering" to build one, do you think you'll find a better candidate in your area? throw him a decent offer and take the thing home... what he wants, and what he'll take are not the same thing...

  24. Trophies must come pretty easy in rusty NY.

FYI the 292 mentiond in the 1st post is a Y-Block V8. Another reason this is a desirable rig.

  25. I might just try and low ball him. The last '57 I saw for sale was @ 1,200.00 and it was sporting a fresh 312 (I know who freshened it).

12 years isn't too long for one to set if it hasn't froze up and broke. But for the asking I would want to take a battery and some gas and get her lit.

  26. :p Whatever.

$2k aint bad, especially a big window, although I have yet to see any pics. If you like it get it, don't get in too big of a hury they don't sell very fast. Get the right hood and build the "Y" for it.

    Buy It.

You obviously are stoked about it and you know its history. If you "wait a month" and lose it to someone else you'll be kicking yourself.

Life is short - go for it.
