What is wrong with the ears?

    .

  3. nothing wrong with the ears, just looking at options,,,right now i have the motor mocked in without the trans , it hasn't arrived yet, pretty close i think to where it is going to be...i made temp brackets out of 3" c channel,,,which is laying across the frame and then bolted to the ears...
just looking for something besides a regular looking stock type mount...

This may or may not help you....on my 53' 241" Dodgre hemi there were no ears for a motor mount cast into the block. Here I just put a steel block in place of the rubber mount then extended the "legs" of the stamped motor mount bracket and now it sits in the rubber biscuits that a stock flathead woulda sat upon.

Something like this is possible. These are some that I did. Hot Heads also makes some for the Dodge.
Making a full front motor plate will take some engineering.

I think a saddle mount would look more attractive

  9. saddle mount???you mean like the old ****** front mount???this is what i was thinking about...the factory front mountis bearing the weight of the engine....extend it upwards with "ears" to set it on the frame....like i said above, just looking at options...something different....

Be very careful how you mount the front and rear of your engine and trans., they need to have two mounts at one end and at least one at the other. I had a 1960 Dodge 1 ton truck with the 318 Poly and Push ****on auto, the way the factory mounts were set up it had a single mount up front like the 241 Hemi pictured above and a cross member bolted to the aluminum tail housing with mounts at either end, if you look at this set up it actually had both mounting points in line, not spread out, when the front mount failed, the engine torqued the trans and broke a large chunk out of the tail housing. There was a factory front mount for the 315 truck engine but it is part of the timing cover which also puts the water pump up high. Your best bet is the side ears, they are the same bolt pattern as the 318's so there are many mounts that can be used, probably the strongest is the 61 to 80's? truck brackets and mounts.

I made a Hurst style mount for my 241. I drilled out the two lower front cover bolt holes for 3/8 threads and had to use small spacers to clear the lip on the cover. It has been fine for 18 years. I use Ford biscuit mounts
