so cool to c all the replies n such here.....steve manante is doing a story and pictoral on this as well....i will let everyone no wear it can be found....here is a few pics of the car the way i found it....
This act is consistent for Garlits. Remember that he went to Vietnam to entertain the troops, and the Museum is an act of love for the sport...that he did this to help a fellow racer who is really sick is a real testament to the kind of person he is.
Big's museum is a must see...... When I took the kiddies to Wally World Land in '02, I escaped for a day of "me-time" and drove to Ocala. Wow, that was the highlight of two weeks for me!!!! Nice to see that the car found a good home.
Not only will this help the man but it will also enhance the Garlits musieum. Thanks for taking the time to share the story with us.
I got to meet him oce at Mid America Raceway in Wentzville MO years ago and got to talk with him for a while, he even took his shoe off and showed me the foot from the clutch explosion that led to rear engine top fuelers
i wana thank mr steve mangante also for the great idea...to call garlits....and the truley amazeing story he is going to do on this big huge hearted act...thanx don garlis, steve mangnante..for all you both have done and are doing...amazing when a gearhead goes down......
Kewl story and damn kewl of you to step up and help someone out...hope the others that robbed him get there when they reach Hells gate
Big Daddy Don Garlits is a gentlemen of gentlemen! I had the pleasure to be in the cart that pulled him back at the Lil Guy Nationals here in VA. If you hang around his booth he will tell story after story, one better then the next. And you are so right about why can there not be more people like this in the world. A lesson for all of us to learn!
i've been to garlet's , and besides the drag race cars,he also has a street rod section that is awsome.
Great morning read !!!! What an honorable thing to do.Thanks for saving such an important piece of our drag racing history. The true stories are always the best.
my pleasure to share this....i will keep all updated as things continue on with this......it truley is the biggest honor..could not have done this without steve magnante and garlits......
Horrible story with a happy ending , nice to know he still had a real friend & to cap it all Don Garlits does the biz, very cool.
Here's the car at it's new home. Not in the Museum yet. Probably because Don is thrashing to get the Challenger done for Indy. I'm sure it will be asap.
thank you..means alot to me to c these few pics....took alot of organizing for this to happen....thank you..
ok i have a ok pic of the bob woods car with garlits in fl....bigs on the road for a few weeks n gonna take a few more upon return....
I saw Garlits run in Cayuga Ontario Canada drag strip back in the mid 70s. He was a legend then. Like royalty.

I've been to the museum 4 times and every time I go it just keeps getting bigger and better. Kinda like the heart of the man who runs the place. Thanks for posting this. I'll be sure to watch for the car the next time I get down there. Frank
