I am headed from Maine to Maryland and hope to spend a day/night in NYC. I have a 2500 GMC pickup with a 20' car trailer in tow, and I'm told I'll have HUGE trouble navigating the city that way and parking will be impossible. Can anyone offer advice as to where I may park my rig overnight, preferrable in northern 'Jersey, close to the turnpike, and catch a train or bus into NYC? I've got 2 adult friends and a 3 month old with me. Thanks for your help, Andrew aka thehotrodguy
no particular place in jersey, hoping for something convenient to nyc and safe to leave my truck & trailer
My suggestion would be Secaucus, NJ. Its right off the Turnpike (exit 16W) on Rt. 3, literally 5 minutes from NYC, plenty of hotels and you can get your truck and trailer around no problem. DONT try to bring your truck and trailer into the city, you will have a HARD time trying to navigate around. I also have no idea why people even bother going to NYC, its nothing but traffic and crowds of people.
Hey thanks Mike. Do you happen to know a safe place I could ditch my truck & trailer overnight? I was hoping to hit a hotel in the city, but I can stay outside the city if need be
take some pics of the waldolf astoria and the empire where the b-45 hit it for me, http://www.trails.com/all-hotels/city-hotel.aspx?dest=NJ+Secaucus
Why not try the double tree hotel in jersey city. It is going to be a few miles off the turnpike. you won't have to navigate any tight streets. They have a decent parking lot ,but I would check on the trailer thing. Also the path train to New york is right there. You will be in the city in 15 minutes. It will be cheaper than any place in the city. It is also 5 minutes from the holland tunnell in case you wanted to drive in, but you can't take the trailer through the Holland tunnell. Good luck N.Y.C. is like no other place. I love it Dave....
Agreed. Also, if you want to come a bit south, I could keep the trailer at my house for the night and there are motels close by. I'm 5 min off the turnpike @ exit 12.
Thank to all for the help / advice! We ended up in Secaucus @ The Red Roof Inn at 0330 sunday morning, and found them to be trailer friendly. Checked out monday morning (but left the rig until monday night). NYC was AWESOME. My first time, but not my last. My traveling companions are both from Iceland and had a wonderful time as well. We walked the city from North Central Park to Battery Park & seemingly all districts in between. Manhattan isn't much of a place for HAMB-friendly cars (although I did spot a few) but definately worth the trip. Thanks again! Andrew
