Ok got these wheels that are just perfect for what I want. Only drawback is they got written on with magic marker.. What can I do to remove this and not end up with a spot that stands out from the rest of the finish ? Was thinking a lil gas on a rag ,,but afraid of the paint ( specially teh stripes ) perhaps raising or something. or sos pad but affraid of ending up with a 'dull' spot
No shit, Little Wing, I recently read all the crazy things WD-40 will do beyond what it was designed for. Given the surface rust, maybe that Magic Marker penetrated too deep to come out. But, hey, at least WD-40 would HURT the pinstripe, buddy. Worth a try.
OOPS! Of COURSE, I meant "would NOT hurt" the pinstripes!!!!!!!!!! Damn my clumsy fingers on this keyboard!
the other day i was at the laundrymat and i guy came in with shorts that had ink on them, the lady who worked said hairspray would take it out and started spraying them with it, you could see the ink start running right away, i have no idea what it would do to your wheels.
do a search on google, kids write all over walls with everything from crayon to magic marker. i bet theres some stay at home mom that has some way to do this with out hurting the paint. really i would look before i go near it with any chemical those wheel are to cool to risk.
That stuff is hard to get out without something strong. Lacquer thinner will work, but it will take the stripes with it. Brakeclean too. Using these markers on bare metal is bad-the ink will get into the steel and keep coming back, even through paint. Use paper and tape to mark your parts, not felt pens or laundry markers please.
Permanent markers are the debil! I have seen marker come through fresh paint, the paint sanded off, the metal re-sanded, washed in thinner a couple of times....no visible signs of the writting. Every time primer or paint was sprayed the writing would re-appear. I don't know if epoxy primer would have trapped it, but regular laquer primer didn't stop it.
Denatured alcohol lifts permanent marker pretty well. I think the hair spray trick works because of the alcohol in it, to be honest.
Acetone is the bomb, it takes marker up like you wouldn't believe. Also works great to remove adhesives from painted surfaces (i.e. dealer stickers on the back of your new car/truck).
I wrote numbers with magic marker on the spines of some original Hardy Boys books, the old brown ones. Any way to get the marker off? 30 years later and my dad still gives me crap.
i heard the hairspray thing too...no proof of it yet..but thats what ive heard post back let us know what did the trick
