After searching the board for a seat for my 32 ford ,i was off to the boneyards. I looked at MInivans and decided that they didn't fit the bill, althought some on the board use them. Pictured below is the seat i removed from a S-10 p-up. I took this one because it slides forward and back and also tilts forward, unlike the Mimi's.Its from a 92 but any year S-10 will do . Mine was a full bench , with small headrests , about the size of red bricks , in a fireplace, which i remved and discarded. The bench measured 48" at the widest point , so i cut and removed about 7 1/2 " ,the frame is nice and thick (1/8" ) so cutting and welding is possible.Welded back together and mounted in the car leaves about 3/4 to 1' between the seat edge and the doors.Perfect!! the seat foam can be cut and glued together and remounted. The seat back is about 26" from the floor to top of the rear deck on the roadster.Going to cover with a mex blanket , will post apic when done.
Just posting this because it worked for me , and may for someone else.Seat was $20 bucks , and they removed it.

That's the exact seat Im using in my a roadster .You might have to narrow it and section it depending on application .You can reuse the foam you got with the seat they will glue that together. Also keep covering for upolsterer,He can use that as his templates. Then I read the rest of your post.Great minds think alike.

In my 31 Pontiac I started with a Chevy Luv seat I cut down like that. I found a Caravan seat for free sitting at the curb with someones trash. Just the right size and a LOT more comfortable on the road. I used the same seat cover I had used on the Luv seat.

I like the idea of being able to slide the seat forward and backwards cause i need more room than most. This will allow my wife and other club members who might drive it a more comfortable ride

One of the nice things about the S-10 seat, is the back rest isn't very thick; so you're able to set the seat back farther than a stock seat, for more leg room.

You can always modify it to fit your exact application.

I wondered if anyone else noticed the dog. That dude(ette?) is a bit chunky.

I did basically the same thing using a Mazda B2200 seat except for I also pinched the seat width at the front to match the taper of my pickup cab. The Mazda frame is all round tubing and very nice. There is also a notch in the center - front for shifter clearance which happened to fit perfectly with my Viper 6-speed.

  12. This is the kind of thread that catches my attention, something that will work and is cheap. That's what hot rodding is all about, people finding **** that will work with a little modification and using it and sharing it with everyone else, and I don't even need a seat, but thanks for the info because I'm not on my last build by any means. I also love the fact that your dog is nearby, I've got a Golden that is always within 10 feet of me when I'm working on the hot rod, he got the first ride to!!!!

I'm using the 3rd seat out of a Dodge Caravan - I had to take 2 1/2 " out of it and narrow it a bit up front to follow the body. It also moves forward and back using some mid 90's Mustang seat rails. I upholstered it to emulate the original design and placed an almost equally old leather briefcase on the back panel to hold maps and official papers, etc. I got the vinyl from the local fabric store.

When push comes to shove, necessity is the mutha of invention!

Using the mid seat out of a Mazda MPV van in a "A" coupe. Heavy duty frame as they mount the seat belt to the seat frame. Back tilts forward and reclines (really important in a A coupe :D). Also adjusts back and forward about 4-6". Armrest on right side that removes easily. Plastic trim that can be used to cover all mechanism. Biggest problem is all the controls are on the right side, but once I give i some thought I am sure that I can overcome that.
