  1. You'll be hard pressed to loose that grin!!! Well done Pete, that first test run is something you'll remember for a while. Can't wait to see it in the flesh.

Pete, well done mate. Fantastc job.

I've kept a very close eye on this build and it really is a credit to you for building such a unique Hot Rod that really sets the standard for the rest of us!!!!!

It's funny because I thought only a couple of days ago about the build and was looking forward to seeing the updates.

Is the '28 gonna be in the event coverage pictures for the CHOPPED Rod's & Customs event.

I'm keen on seeing it there!!!!!

All the Best and happy rodding mate......

    HC.

That has long been the plan. At this stage we're looking good. There's still time for me to break something though.

It feels like it will...I don't know yet.

The tank is from a Fordson tractor. Not sure how much it holds but it's pretty big.

Pete-AWESOME! Congrats man. That has got to be a great feeling, kinda makes you forget some of the bumps & bruises that it takes to get there. The car looks & sounds fantastic, I'm happy for ya!

    Thanks guys.

C'mon Dan. You must be close.

The video and sound quality doesn't do justice. I'm running straight out of my headers just under the floor with homemade baffles. It sounds good. Not as loud as I expected. That's a good thing because I have stuff all room for mufflers and it has to be quiet for reg.

  9. Fantastic to see you get that beautiful Nailhead on the road, congratulations!

Congrats Pete on getting the car up and running. After all the clutch hassles you've beaten, you must be on top of the world.:D

  11. Pete I bet that grin hasn't left your face yet.
Great to see and hear it running finally.

I too am hanging out to see it at the Chopped show.

A little tip for you when you get your exhaust sound check, put stainless scourer pads in the exhaust and hold them in with a self tapping screw then after the plates are screwed on you can pull the screw out and pull out the pads with a piece of wire.

I can get my baffles out by undoing one bolt. I'll wrap the scourers between the rings in my baffles. Dead easy to remove. Thanks for the tip though.

  13. So when does it go to the engineer or are you going to use Con reg?

    Con reg.

I pulled the pin on my engineer when he started asking for stupid stuff. At that stage it wasn't major but I think for once in my life I knew when to fold 'em. I could see the potential for the whole thing to go pear shaped and get really expensive so I walked away.

Down the track I may have another look at it if I find the right guy.

For now I have to make some cycle guards, header covers and get the seat upholstered so I can pay Con a visit.

Oh yeah, and put an exhaust on it

    Pete,

Man, I'm so happy for ya! (Makes me feel good to know too that I'm not the only guy who can build a car, take a video while driving it for the first time, and then not be able to link the vid from youtube!:D)

My first drive, to the gas station two miles up, came to halt when one of the bolts holding the fuel pump, and it's ground wire, fell off (of course I'd neglected to tighten them during "mock up" and left them loose) and the car quit about half a mile from the station. Stole a 7/16 from the licence plate (also only finger tight ) crawled under the car and got it going.

I loved you daughters comments as you drove off, "Bye Bye!" and then your wife (I'm guessing) in the universal "worried mom" voice saying "Watch out Mattie". Classic, and very cool family stuff.

Great job, great build, great video. Glad you've got the clutch thing sorted out, now go out and blow some more radiator hoses off, scratch it all up, and have a ball! I love it!

    Thanks Brian.

Funny thing, today I didn't touch the car. I had my youngest home with me and did dad things. Only after dinner tonight i thought to myself, "I'll do some work on the car tomorrow and maybe I'll drive it again". Suddenly it sunk in that I can go out to the shed, hop in my hot rod and drive it. That's pretty cool.

I better get reg though. Driving up and down my dead end dirt road will soon grow old.

Oh by the way, those flowing blonde locks belong to my son, not my daughter. I should show him this. Time for a haircut, son.

    Thanks again for watching

    Pete

Whoops! My bad. Tell the lad I still get called "M'aam" at work sometimes, despite a goatee and short cropped hair. All nurses are women, right?

What all is involved in getting your car registered? I knew you had to have it inspected, what's con reg? Sounds like there's a good chance of running up against a beaurocrat who, if they're having a bad day, want you to as well...

    Brian.

Con is actually the name of the bloke that inspects hot rods for the SR plate permit scheme over here. He represents the ASRF but is essentially a one man show in terms of what gets plates and what doesn't. He's inspected my car twice during the build and we get along OK. I've done all he has asked or presented a good argument where I could not comply and he's happy with the car so far.

This is not full state registration so there are limitations on use but I didn't build a daily driver anyway.

    Have faith my friend

Not sure but I do know he had to use an unsplit wishbone. In my case it would be easier to unsplit the atom.

    And yes I am happy.

Did a few small jobs today and fired it up, rolled out of the shed for a "test" run and it pissed down. Backed it back in the shed. Maybe tomorrow.

I see. I'll get hamered for this, but we really should have some form of inspection/approval for assembled vehicles here. I know, I know, big brother is watching too much now, but you should see some of the crap people drive here. Yikes.

Good luck with the inspection, I know it'll pass muster.

  24. Well done Pete! The mod looks awesome and sounds great.

Took it into town yesterday for some juice. Very strange driving it amongst other cars and trucks. Had to make some very short shifts in the main street. Geez it felt good though.
