Just for ****s and giggles, I decided to calculate my mileage (8ba). Based on my most recent fill up, I got 12.8mpg. No vacuum or mechanical advance on the distributor, so I think there's room for improvement, what can be expected?

I'm getting about 16-18 MPG but I'm running a single carbie 'til the engine is broke in.The engine runs a 400 Jr cam, headers, more compression and a converted Chevy distributor with mechanical advance only.
The Es*** shoves a lot of air by the way but I really don't watch the mileage that closely. As long as the gas ain't running out the exhaust......

My 51 Ford flathead is pretty much stock.
On my trip to Back to the 50's I got 18 to 19 driving around 55 to 60 in Overdrive.
When I came back home pushed her a little harder 65 to 70, the gas mileage dropped to 15 to 16. That little bit farther on the gas pedal makes a difference.

Ummm...if you are running no advance, why are you asking about mileage?? Probably most of your gas is employed at keeping your exhaust p***ages red hot! Do something before you fry your engine!

My 1500lb bucket ran a 276 Merc. Offy heads, Offy dual intake w/2 94's jetted kinda lean. 5 speed S10 trans, 4:11 '36 Ford rearend. Got around 30 on the freeway. The 5 speed kicks ***!!

  14. Still not a flatty, I got 17 mpg with my 50 year old Pontiac (56 Starchief) with the stock (1:1 final ratio) transmission while driving 1000 miles at 70-75 mph...

the ICT gets about 12-16 depending on how much I get my foot into the Blown 8BA, all I care about is pulling past our club members to take photos on the freeway. Somehow it just doesn't want to stay below 70................

Nice. I'm going to have to hunt down an OD ******. A coworker just bought a 2006 f150, it gets 15mpg. I figure if all they could do since 1951 was imprive the milage by a few measly mpg's, I can live with 12mpg :)

I just haven't put in an MSD yet. It's not running hot, I can't see it frying the engine, it just makes mileage and performance worse.

1950 flathead v8 daily driver with headers and dual exhaust, MSD drop-in distributor, offy heads and edelbrock intake with 500 cfm holley and three-in-the-tree gets 17 mpg all around driving. But then my flathead Studebaker 6 cyl in my 53 coupe gets 26 mpg now and will get over 30 when box-o-parts are put on.

8ba running two 94's with a stock rebuilt distributor is getting 19 on the 4 lanes.
Why would you run any engine without an advance??????

I put a different carb on that has no vacuum port, and the stock distributor uses vacuum for advance. I have an msd on order. Should be here soon.

Umm, not sure how big the Model A gas tank but I just drove about 150 miles on one tank the other day. I was cruisin 70 the whole way. I know I used a whole tank cause I filled up, then ran out 150 miles later!

My '47, which is bone stock, gets 14.4 overall, city and highway (mostly city) combined. The '46 Fords came with a higher rear end gears (lower numerically) and got better mileage. Uncle Tom McCahill complained about the new lower gears introduced in '47, saying it climbed hills better but got worse mileage and turned too many rpms on the highway.

mine is in a circle track race car and I get around 6 to 7 laps per gallon of fuel.

  30. I think from memory you've got about 9 gallons for a 28-29 and 10 gallons for a 30-31.
