Been looking at a nice affordable tig machine and i came across the miller diversion 165. anyone have any input or feedback on the unit? thanks.
I got to try one a few weeks ago. It's a good machine. Get great penetration. Only thing I would do different is have the foot pedal for it.
I got one because my garage had limited power and really like it. I got the foot pedal, which plugs in with like a CAT5E computer cable. Works fine. I've had bigger, more complex TIGs, but really like this.
im using the 200 dynasty,i love it...i like the thumb control.i have to get into some very tight places and there would be no way to run the foot control.
I've had a Miller 165 about 6 months, when I first got it , had a hard time getting used to the thumb control. All my past use of TIG machines was with a foot pedal,so I ordered up a foot pedal and never looked back.I can see where there will be times the thumb wheel will be helpful though. It had been a few years since I did much TIG welding , but it all came back quickly and I'm really impressed with the 165. It's done all I could ask of it. ............Jack
I would opt for the Econotig. The Diversion 165 replaced the Econo in this years product line. I like the econotig because you have the option of stick welding. when you gotta weld some thick steel and the TIG dont have enough amps, you can run 3/32" 7018 rods. Plus now that its discontinued, you can get it alot cheaper.
Hey Mitch, when you get that welder do you want me to send my wife over to teach you how to use it? lol
I bought an Econotig in '94 and I'm still using it, I have done alot of ch***is work in that time. The only bad thing is the air cooled torch but ya just weld some and then do other things while it's cooling some. No problem here.
Lots of discussion on the web about this welder. Do a search and also check out www.millerwelds.com forum. I bought one and it's a great machine for it's intended purpose. I bought a foot pedal right away, but I see where the thumb wheel would be nice in certain situations. This is an inverter style welder and uses less power than the old econotigs. Would I rather have a bigger welder and a water cooled torch? Sure, but for the price and limited space I have in a 1 car shop (it had to fit under my bench) it will complement my Miller 210 mig just fine for car projects.
