So my work truck is a 98 chev ¾ ton with a 350. I just went to change the cap and rotor and found that the tabs where the cap bolts on are plastic. Thanks GM another great idea… of course they have gotten hot and are old so both crumbled when I touched them. My question is do I have to buy a new distributor for $200 or is there a kit that just replaces that plastic part… I have searched online with no luck yet. My local O’riellys told me this is a pretty common problem with these distributors. HAve any of your found a way around buying the new one?

  2. You might be better off going to Chevytalk and asking them (www.chevytalk.org) - my buddy has a Suburban down with the same problem and he just got another vehicle; mine have all been older and still have some metal in them.

You'll need a thing that does that stuff on those things when they go kaput.

The whole distributer housing is plastic. You have to buy a new one.
