I'll start this out by saying I don't know anything about model a's... I've built a couple old chevy trucks, but thats it. Today I called on a 29 A five window. The owner said the rumble seat had been cut out with a torch, about 2" on each side of the lid. He thinks maybe it was used as a pickup years ago. Sorry I have no pictures, but does anyone have an idea how involved it is to fix this? Are parts available? He wants $2500 for the car and I'm thinking thats allot considering the messed up rear end. Am I wrong, or should I grab it?.....Thanks guys
you would need other quarter panels to patch it with unless you are really good at sheetmetal work, its hard to say without pics if its a good deal or not is it a whole car or just the body?
It's a complete car, not running just rolling. You guys are making me feel better about my first thoughts on it. Sounds pricey.
Too pricey...better deals out there than that...in line with that other thread on here - offer him half.
get it and complete it as the truck, can't say I've seen one done. My coupe was a truck convertiontoo, but the qtr did not get cut, just no lid, or lower panel. I often wondered what it would look like witht he bed in it.
Without seeing it, it's hard to say. If that rear section is the only major thing that is wrong with it, then hell, it's a good deal.
Hey dude-pick up a copy of the october Street Rodder magazine (don't cringe folks!). It shows the differences between the early 28-29 cowl and the late 30-31. The early ones look more like a Model T cowl and the late ones a little closer to the deuce. Clear ***le? If not $2500 sounds like top $$ Hope it works out for ya.
In New England 2500.00 for a complete coupe in that condition wiulde be a good to great deal. If thats the extent of the welding your getting off easy. I have to put the bottom six inches on every project I get.
Doesn't sound like a bad deal, if the rest of the body is decent. You could probably get all the pieces you need to fix it from Brookville, I'd check and see if they had any seconds in the quarter panel piles; you could use a panel that was fairly well damaged, if you just need the lip around the lid. You said it was complete, you might be able to get it running. Does it have a ***le?
No ***le, he also said no visible serial numbers. Front cowl bottoms have some rust, doors open and close good, they have some pinholes on bottoms...(until you blast them). Otherwise its complete.
Does it have a stock motor in it? If it does, there should be a number on the left side of the block. If the seller will give you a bill of sale, will this be enough for your states DMV, to get a ***le; or what would you need?
Need pictures it might be easier to fix than you think.......if it has a ***le that is a great price.
there is one that runs around my home town here in wisconsin... you're not missing much if you want to make it a WWII coupe pickup... just some wood planks
You can probably find a better deal than that but if you think its worth it it shouldn't be to bad of a fix
$2500 seems to be the going price for 5 windows.. $1500 for sedans, they made more sedans than coupes...all 5 windows are missing deck lids because of WWII rationing,if it's all there rolling ch***is i say get it,i know of where you could get a ***le for 375.00..
um, im gonna call ******** here i've seen PLENTY of coupes that were NEVER turned into a gas ration pickup, in fact more that were NOT than were
Do you have any other pictures, like of the front and sides? My only other thought would be, when are you bringing it home? Those cars don't show up everyday, there is enough there for a good start. The only other thing that I would do is check with your DMV to see what you have to do to get a ***le; will a bill of sale from the seller get you started?
