  5. I think i know the one you are talking about. That one looks like its ad a very hard time, and it will need more work to get the bearing seat area right again, which could be easy or a real pain in the ass and its hard to tell from pics. The price is good, but it may be a wall hanger...............

If you are hung up on having the real deal then you will pay the price. Old Halibrands can be expensive to fix. Repairs are common but not always great workmanship. A used set can run from $1500 to $5000 depending the seller and condition. If you want a great quick change look for an unmodified one or purchase a Winters or Rodsville. These work perfect. My 2 cents.

You sir, are correct, as i missed the 'A' part.. But i agree 100% with your advice to the guy..

    Welds=Rough life..

I broke my V8 Q.C. twice over 10yrs of abuse, but only ring&pinion & once the carrier outer.
Sourcing the correct parts was fucked. I'm lucky to have not cracked the pinion.

    Don't inherit someone else's nightmare.. :D

  12. There is a kiwi guy that make a 'new' 101 QC centre, look into that also. You dont get any pinion and crown wheel though. A mate bought a V8 type from him, i am going today to check it out to see the quality as I am looking at getting one also.

Rodsville stuff looks pretty neat but the halibrand just oozes with tons of cool factorness....

  16. You're looking at the one that's currently on eBay, aren't you? If so, I'd pass.

  17. Has anyone checked on a new one from Halibrand ???

Are they still making any at all? If so what kind of cash does a V8 command?

I would pass on the one listed on eBay. I bought a Rodsville this summer and it's a well made quality piece. According to the guy from rodsville, it is made from Halibrand specs.

The Winters QC is a pretty good deal, you can pick one up from Dick Spdaro at a great price with everything you need to put it into a a later Ford Banjo rear (just make sure you ask for the smooth cover).

I know that the Speedway Engineering QC cover looks close to a Halibrand cover and fits the Winters rear, does anyone know if a Halibrand cover will fit a Winters rear?

  23. I checked out the Kiwi made V8 style QC on Sunday, its a very nice piece also, I was supprised to see an o-ring seal for the rear cover, the quality looked really good. I will be getting one from him thats for sure. I just wondered if a halibrand gear cover would fit? That would be nice as I dont like it when people re-produce something and then go and make it look cheap with a logo or whatever, but i spose they want it labeled with there brand.

    Good luck in your searching.

  24. I have a Culver City Model A rear for sale. Case is extremely nice, no cracks or repairs and the case itself, unlike most, has "Culver City" cast into it. Apparently quite rare. The rare 2 ear rear cover is there as well and it's a Culver City as well. Some one set it up at least 40 years ago with a later model slide-in axle conversion using the stock carrier as a spool and, I believe 17 spline axles? I think they are '50 Merc or something. Anyhow, it's very nice for an original, especially if you need an authentic part.

PM me if you are interested.

  25. Halibrand still makes V8 quickchanges and boy do they look sharp. Seems to me if you had to have one this would be the way to go ! I think it will be my birthday present next year!!!

Sig from South 40 was the only one who had parts for me when i was fucked on my Hali. Top notch dude in my opinion..

Apparently his centers are all done on CNC so all Axis remain constant throughout the machining process. Old Hali's were all done on a bridgeport, so tollerences are all over the place. I'd pick one of his any day over a Hali.. Originality doesn't really count for shit if it leaves you stranded on the side of the road.

If you want the "real deal" then be prepared to spend some "real cash".
I have a friend in Stockton, CA that has an extremely nice Model A Halibrand unit, but I know you couldn't buy this for the price of the Rodsville.
If you are looking for something different, Wilson&Welding makes their Demon quick change out of a stock banjo.......www.wilsonandwelding.com
Since Halibrand is not producing quick changes anymore and hasn't for a good many years, I really wanted one.................now I have two. One is an NOS Champ, 301, and the other I bought from a HAMBER.......this one was used but in very nice condition. I filled it with 4:11's, DPI Torenson Locker, and had Keith of Dutchman put it all together for me........after buying NOS bells, axles, tubes, and having everything assembled, I could have gone out and bought a fully polished Winters and still had enough money left over take 6 people to Ruth Chris for steaks.

  30. Just buy the Rodsville unit. I have one that I am going to use and it is top notch.
