I know you may be sick of Bonneville stuff but I just got back from a vacation that included a little time at speed week. I'm NOT a professional photographer but I hope you enjoy my take of the salt flats and the bend in the road.

Great pictures that really seem to capture the spirit of the salt flats.
I've never been there but now it's definitely on my "bucket list".
    Thanks for sharing your pictures!

  5. Great coverage; you really caught the essence of the place.
Would you recommend camping at Bend in the Road? (I know there aren't many options

Thanks for the kind comments. It was easy to capture the spirit because it's there! This is only my second year and I see the roots of "hot rodding" there.

Camping on the bend is a little primitive. They provide (thank you!) johnnies on the job and trash dumpsters. I've met some of the friendliest, interesting people and seen some of the coolest rods.
There were a couple of arguments this year, one the police were called to but I suspect that these are rare.

    If you get the chance......

+1 on trhe great coverage, Thanks!!!

This was my first trip also, I spent 4 nights at the bend. I had no transportation for the first couple of days and that was kinda tough. I didn't get much socializing in out there. The Sinclair is in walking distance, a shower and good food (ask for an apple juice and you get a beer:D) and always caught a ride back in a hot rod. Woke up one morning and that cool yellow first belly tanker was parked next to my tent!

The Trucker's Lounge in town has a $2 shower and the place is nice. The Pilot in town is $10 and not as nice.

The Blue Cow Hamburger place on First street behind the Nugget is a great place. The restaurant at the Red Garter is a great value also. $13.00 Prime rib. And a full menu.

Breakfast at the Red Flame on the salt is a must, get there early. Real early.

The pre-B'ville threads said, just go, don't worry about anything. This is good advice, everything works out. Use your thumb if you don't have a ride. And I left everything I brought at the tent all day and nobody borrowed anything. If I screw up again and wait too late to get a room, I'll stay at the bend again.

  9. I'm gonna camp at the Bend next time. Wendover is a sad, sad town. I thought the Salt Flats Cafe was a hoot. Decent Mexican grub and my "Apple Juice" was a Corona with limes. The place sort of reminds me of El Merendero, next to the Pomona drags.
