Where do i find the casting numbers on my olds engine block? When i bought it i was told it was a 350... now i found where it is casted that it is a 5.0L, wait til i see the guy i got it from.... anyway it runs good but has a leaky water pump so i am wondering how i find what year it is to get a new one. i would imagine like a chev if i can find the cast number i can learn all the info i need.

    Any help is appreciated!!!

What you have there is an Olds 307. Not much power to be had. Should be a machined pad at the base of the drivers side head, on the block in front. Kind of hard to find because it is behind the alternator bracket. There should be some stamped numbers. I think the first two are the code for the year of manufacture, the rest are vin ID. All Small block Olds water pumps are basically the same except for lengths. There are three different lengths. Measure the length from the fan flange to the base. Everything else is same for the 307.
A good reference is available on 442.com look at the FAQ.
