lookin for advice on '47 ford 1.5 ton

I have a '47 ford 1.5 ton and found this site through a ford forum that recommended reading countryboys '47 ford 1.5 ton build...awesome truck. But I want to go in a different direction. I want to keep the 59A flatty and build it up with performance parts. Would appreciate advice on keepin old ch***is vs swappin for newer one, best manual ****** for the 59A in this application. Look forward to hearing your ideas.
