I currently have a FMX transmission in my ride. It needs rebuilt. I can get a C6 for less money and have heard that the C6 is a better trans. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o> </o> -Question- Is the FMX and the C6 the same length? I know that the slip yoke will work between the two. Curious to know if I am going to have to get my drive shaft shortened or lengthened. <o> </o> Do you see any other problems or obstacles if I replace the FMX w/ the C6? <o> </o> As always, thanks for you help guys.
What car? year? Need to know more information. If the car that the FMX is installed in is 66 or newer (Furd product) chances are you can find a C6 that is meant for that car and may just need C6 linkage.
What engine? FMX is 351 & down bell, c6 could be a couple of different ones. C6 is a stronger tranny & uses more HP to run. Overkill on most 302 & smaller.
I can't think of any engine that came with a FMX that I'd want to put a C6 behind... C4's a different story.
The engine is a stock 302. From the sounds of it, I should not use the C6 due to my engine size. The reason I wanted to use the C6 is because the slip yoke I have for the FMX will work for a C6 as well. However, it will not work for the C4. Thanks for the advice guys.
You'd have to find a small-block bellhousing C6 out of a Van or some HD application. IIRC, they're not that common and may be hard for you to find. Also, as others have said, they use a lot of HP just to turn them, a friend had told me it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 60hp. I'd definitely recommend a C4 for a small block instead. The same friend who had the small block C6, switched to a built up C4 instead for his drag-race 351W powered '67 Fairlane.
