Yeah baby!! Just got back from a 12-day, 2200 mile motorcycle ride thru the NE mostly on back roads - I eyeballed every old service station, school house, post office, etc with the same idea in mind. Congrats man on a big score. Plus...with the green movement, it's perfect to restore and renovate old stuff rather than build new.

  3. Anyone in to cars or bikes has thought about converting/owning and making a shop out of an old gas station at one time or another. I'm sure there are many here living vicariously in your dream!!

All the best to you and your new shop!!

Thank you for not giving up on your dream and sharing with us. I could only imagine how hard it was to keep this a secret. Good on you!!

Are you going to have a business out of it, or just do your "fun" stuff?

Very, very cool! Did I miss where it is? We have a place near Fife Lake, it'd be fun to make a drive and see your digs. When you're ready for company, that is!

Just me being a lawyer, I guess, but I was wondering whether you had a Phase I.

Very cool, though, I've always wanted one.

    Wow,....

Your all overwhelming me with the great responses, I will take some more pictures and post them soon, the shop has the original "H" beam single ram hoist that was installed in 1937, the one son that has the signs and the remains of the original pumps also took the hook on "dogs" for the hoist so it would be really hard to use (this is the son that originally brought the law suit), besides the last thing they lifted with it was a large Dozer about 6 years ago,.... its cool but really hard to work on those hoists,.... and after lifting that Cat Dozer I don't trust the leather seals.

I know I'll get some groans about this, but for safety reasons I think it will come out and it will be replaced with a two post hoist. but this will all take some time as the piggy bank is pretty much bone dry right now,..... As far as re graveling the drive way, I would really like to do this,... but I have other priorities.

    The List,
1.Update some of the wiring, 2.finish the tuck point work, 3.finish cleaning up then sealing and painting the roll up doors,.... they look rough but are actually really solid and work fine, 4. hang new lights, 5.figure out new heat (I am thinking about a radiant tube heater), 6.pressure wash the inside of the shop area with TSP and repaint (I am thinking a cream top with a maroon wanes coat (sp?) bottom). the list seems endless but I will take it one step at a time while working on the Hot Rods,.....

Again thanks so much for your congratulations and well wishes, If any of you are ever around the Higgins/Houghton Lake area P.M. me, I would love to have you come by.

    Thanks again, Dennis

It's kind of cool that this picture was posted,.... one time when I was really tempted to spill the beans, I photoshoped this one by putting the roadster in front of the 2 Pike and slid it into the "Cool picture thread" nobody caught it as phony :D,... so I kept my yap shut,... I felt like I was kind of sharing it without disclosing the entire thing.

Thats awesome man. It didn't make it as a gas station because it was off the beaten path, but that should be a perfect spot for a rod shop. Good luck with it, and congrats
