Is there a technical name for the vent holes in the hood of this Chevy? I really like the look and I am considering doing something similar on my car. Could someone post a picture of what they are supposed to look like on the inside of the hood? Thanks!
We always called 'em portholes. Steal some off a old Buick. "4 holers" were Roadmasters? 4 per side. 'gnite.
Unless its going on a Buick (That they came on) the correct name and configuration of 'Vent Holes' are LOUVERS!
Those came in Buicks from around 1949 or so until around 1957 (I'm at work so I can't look it up and I'm going from memory). The shape and size varies from year to year. Those look to me like 1957. You can find nice ones and bolt them in, you can mold them in like the car in your picture, or you can use steel tubing and carefully cut the holes to create it all from scratch. I'd call them "port holes,", but Benzine440 is right and Buick called them "Venti-Ports." Trivia: The false rumor has always been that Buick put blocking plates in theirs to stop people from peeing into them, but you'd have to be a contortionist to do that and I can't imagine anyone looking at a new car and thinking "I'm going to urinate into those venti-ports!" I'm certain it was to cut down on engine compartment noise and heat radiating out of them and to keep road dirt, mud, and rain out of the engine compartment. On a rod or custom you could choose to have them functional or block them off.
They seldom look good on anything that they didn't come on in the first place. Too much of the stuck on as an afterthought look. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
if its a Buick..the holes should already be there..if it aint a Buick..it will look like they dont belong..My 2 cents
