I'm looking for a new filter for my oldsmobile, it's long over due for an oil change and I haven't had any luck finding a canister oil filter? Anyone know a good source for those filters?? Thanks!
Not sure what part number your's would be, but i've always had luck finding them in the Wix line.. For all the early SBC's i've had and the inline in my 53 Chevy.. And Wix is also one of the better filters on the market as well. Might be an avenue to check out if your local parts places carry that brand.
I'd pull the canister to see if it has a number and brand on it. Then it can be cross referenced. It probably is still available if you have a number to look for. Not all canisters use the same filter element. In fact Studebaker used 2 different sizes during the same time.
I bought a box full on Ebay. The Chain auto parts stores either carry them or get them in quick in this area. $14 ea. at one place, $7ea. at another. Gotta shop. But I see them regularly on the bay. Good luck.................
Advancedauto.com shows the same number, I didn't think they'd go back that far! Looks like they have them in stock too. Thanks fellas!! Time to close the thread!!
i dont know where your at, but out here where the sun never sleeps balwin filter co everything truck tractor airplanes trains and cars take it with you, i had a toyota gray market fork lift with canister filter motor no filter no where! they found the same size in there catlog it was for hydralic but they explained just filters more particals just change more often these guys know filters!
I found then at swapmeets for cheap but they have been drying up lately,I bought a few for my 37 chevy p/u with a 57 235 for 50 cents to a dollar each but they are gone and have not found any cheap swapmeet filters so I get them at napa.
Got one for my 54 chevy 235 today at Auto Zone, they had 1 in stock, you can check online for your Olds.
Looks like you found one already, but I just bought a filter for my '41 Buick at Car Quest. They had it on hand.
