i agree that the lot is a privilige, and we need to stick to what ever rules the owner, or who is in charge puts on it.

as for the chairs, either dont allow them in the lot period, lol, or let the fukers who wanna sit, sit.

while i like the idea of going from pod to pod so to speak, many are gonna sit no matter what, so i aint gonna sweat it, but if ya dont allow chairs, then they will have to sit somewhere else :).

maybe a sign, "no chairs", or a recycleing bin for aluminum, chairs, lol

Some great points, one thing that seems to be overlooked, the lawn chairs are typically used for older people who can't stand up and shoot the shit for hours like a 20-year old. Back in the day, I'd say (I went to VNB a few times myself in the late '70s) it was a young crowd.

My car has big 'ol steel fenders and real bumpers....I don't need a lawn chair.

  6. Absolutely. If someone is being an asswipe, he needs to be straightened out, pronto. The drunk guy in the Hummer should have had the cops called on him. I have no problem ratting someone off to the cops if they deserve it. I go to sleep at night with a smile on my face while they are calling their lawyer

If the parking lot is such a problem, which it apparently is by all the goings on about it, why not close it altogether.

  8. The lot is NOT a problem. But, I think the smarter person addresses certain issues BEFORE it becomes one. Make sense?;)

I agree that some of the older guys need to sit. But, maybe.....they can sit in their cars.....while cruising:D

Absolutely!!! You just might end up saving someone's life. Maybe a 20 year old kid who has the green light when that idiot decides the red doesn't apply to him. Let the 20 year old kid make it into his 50's so he too can tell his kids how it used to be.

Take the drunks off the road. I have no problem with someone getting lit, just don't get behind the wheel of a car. I have kids out there driving too.

The lawn chairs would seem more in place if they were on the sidewalks watching the cars cruising --- that would be a way to encourage spectators, but to yell out stuff at some 70+ year old who only wants to have a little fun seems kinda cold.

Maybe the reason we didn't have lawn chairs back in the day is they hadn't been invented yet? All we had were the wood tilt up beach back rests with striped fabric backs!!!! They were just inverted V's.

    :)

Remember dinosaurs? We used to use them to play fetch.

If memory serves me, I even cruised Bob's with one but was banned from car service.

    :D

I think I need to clarify something here. NO ONE is trying to ban lawn chairs....Yes we are asking people to get out of them and cruise. Cruising is the whole idea here. There will always be lawn chair people whereever you go anymore. They are welcome. They for the most part are people of the first generation of rodders. What we don't want and CANNOT HAVE, is people parking in front of Ralphs and camping out there. Ralphs is cool with people in the side lot, but not in lawn chairs and last week, they were literally over run by spectators blocking their lot , causing them to lose business. This will get us shut down. So far, the local merchants are welcoming us. Anyone see the sign at 4n20? "Welcome Van Nuys Cruisers". This is what we want and need.
Now we are going to have to police that lot too. We have the generousity of Rydell, but no permission with Ralphs. So for people to be setting up there is a major problem.
For the most part, the lot at Rydell was the most organized it has been yet. We still have a problem with people parking in the aisles, but not as bad as before...The Hummer included. A certain Nova decided to park right in the middle of the main entrance, block traffic and get out of his car. When Mrs VNcruiser told him to move, he started yelling at her and got in her face. This is what started the "Hall of Shame".
As for the lot rules, this is the first time we passed them out and we want to thank everyone that followed them. It made keeping the lot organized a little less hectic...remember, having a good time is what this is all about, whether you're in a chair or on the street...Cruise,cruise, eat cruise, piss, cruise , cruise. :D

  17. Ok, I just got an idea. Thx for the idea Ried but do we really need a time to go cruise? Why do we even need a lot. GET THE FUCK OUT THERE WHEN EVER YOU GET THERE AND JUST GO CRUISE. fuck, I can't belueve this is still a debate. We didn't have a lot to meet at back in the day. We just cruised. Call all your friends, go find a pocket somewhere on the Blvd and meet there and figure out what your going to do. It's not hard.

  18. From what I understand, early cruisers DID have a lot. I believe Bob's Big Boy was the "hub" back then. So, having the Rydell lot is a definate asset. But, I just think some judicious "fine tuning" won't hurt.;)

Let's all take a collective deep breath and relax. Why not start parking on the streets like the old days, maybe it will catch on. Every car on this thread has a photo of it being parked in that lot, correct?

    Peace out;)

  20. that's fine but the lot still needs to quit being a place to hang out. The cruising area is not that big. If you cruise you will see everybdoy at some point.

There were many lots back in the day. Yes, Bob's was the hub, The racers hung out at B of A, Jack in the box, the bikes were at Arby's (it was up by Sherman Way then ), the vans parked by Vons (now Jons), the Trans Am's in front of prestige Pontiac, etc...So yes, having the lot is great...And that brings us full circle to ...Get people to create their own hang outs again....The lot is for lease and not going to be there forever...
As for when to start cruising? . ...Seghi leads the way! The Pied Piper of VNB!

Ok, it's simple. Follow me out to the Blvd, and go.........
Don't be scared. You drive down to about Vanowen and drive back. Then repeat. Like we did back in the old days. It's like riding a bicycle. You don't forget. Before you know it you've made 3-4 laps. Park somewhere and watch for a bit. Then repeat.

Well let me see now, how many times could I drive back and forth between say 5pm and 10pm, a thousand, fifteen hunderd? I guess I'll have to put it to the test. However, doctors say that 800 or more times will only drive you crazy.

If you are crazy, the result is even worse. You may awake in a lawn chair with a crazed look in your eyes clicking a remote for a television that isn't even there, watching parked cars cruising back & forth on the inside of your eyelids.

Geeezzzzz, can't we at least tar & feather 'em too, barbwire them to those lawn chairs ad some roller-skates and drag them behind a bus on fire down Van Nuys Boulevard?

This could take care of 2 problems, and ad a little entertainment and fireworks to the whole shebang.

The Lawn Chair goes back to the dawn of civilization when man first discovered spare time. Ironically, It was the Sumerians in about 4000 - 3000 BC, that built the first cities of the world on the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in the present location of Iraq. The Kings wanted a portable place to sit while their slaves carved out civilization's first boulevard in front of the first buildings.

However, you couldn't exactly call that cruisin' though, five out of 6 of each of the road crews would stand with beers in their hands while one guy did all the digging, just like today.

Vintage chairs we sat in cruising Whittier Blvd in the 60's. Not all night but many of us brought chairs to watch the cruising between laps waiting for our cars to cool down & to critique the cars & hopefully get mooned by a car full of girls.
    It's nothing new.
