After lurking about this message board for awhile, it is apparent I must come out of the closest, so to speak... I have noticed that introductions are not only encouraged, but required on this board, so here it goes.. I am 31 years old, and live in the "Great White North" of Calgary Alberta Canada. Affiliations: NHRA safety inspector... bascially the bane of many a local street ricer as a safety tech at the friday night run what ya brungs... Also get to lift all the hoods I want... to see the hot setups.... Vehicles: Varied and eclectic... 04 Dodge Ram - Daily driver 1980 Camaro RS - Restified 1984 CB750SC - Mildly restified, the best of the Nighthawk SC hot rods.. 1947 Ford 8N - A flat headed 4 cyl powered tractor - FYI 1977 Honda Civic: Hot-roded the old fashioned way, biggest motor you can squeeze into it...and mostly because it was there and I was bored... Now before you all warm up your flame fingers too much, the reason for coming out of the closet... Been looking for the perfect car to hot rod for ~1 year, and came across the perfect specimen.. A "mid project" restoration of a '54 Mercury Meteor Rideau 2 door sedan...the last of the great Canadian flathead powered mercs... All the weld patches and associated rust repair have been completed on the car, but it is currently in many, many pieces, and it must be put back together again, and I may be looking for advise/asking questions on how to put it all back together again as they arise... Engine is the big 255 cuin merc flatty with assorted new and interesting parts, from dual CI headers, dual carb intake, Isky cam etc etc (read I need to sort through the 4 truck/trailer loads of stuff I have inherited.... Many thanks to Brian H, the old school Hot Rodder whom has been ammassing the parts for this merc for the past couple of years, and whom has had to give it up due to health reasons. Now he will get to enjoy the 58 Merc Moarch, and get it out of the garage once in awhile! FYI, he has 3 complete flat heads, in various stages of rebuild for sale, as well as a garage full of parts, including a vintage, and hardly used Sun scope, that he would like to get out of there. I just don't have the room for it all... I can forward any requests to him.. For all you Southern Alberta local guys, would like to get together and meet up with you.... Brian

These 8N's, and all their derivatives, are how most of us prairie boys get their first intro to flattys. Basically, they are a tractor wrapped around the Ford model A (I think) 4 cylinder....And there are TONS of them to be had for cheap...In the 50's there was a kit released to pull the four and replace it with a v-8... See them occasionally at the local ag shows... Interesting thing is that the 8Ns are still FULLY supported by the Ag OEMs, so if you are looking for a source of new or re-manufactured parts, call your friendly local New Holland dealer... Just be prepared to pay... As for the Honda, it was there, I was bored, and a buddy dropped a newer (93) engine at my place for storage, and never came and got it.. Allot of cutting welding and screwing around and it is pretty fun little beater.. And cheap on gas... Thanks for the welcome. Once I get some pics of the Merc, will upload. With it being in pieces, but supposedly complete, it is bascally like a Hertzl model that you get to drive afterwards.... Erik, I'm originally from Edmonton, and just be prepared for what you are getting into... This what the view of the out-laws farm house up by Edmonton was like yesterday... Brian
Yeah ive been up there quite a bit and im still not sure about going. The only reason is a job offer and I was just up there last weekend and its already starting to snow. Not looking forward to that part.
