Well I think its about time I posted up. I've been a car junkie since as far back as I can remember, my first car was a '56 Healey my old man built and gave to me at the ripe old age of 6 months. I started working in my old man's British auto-restoration shop when I was around 10, and I've been pretty much incurable since then. . My first project (still unfinished and currently stalled) is a '53 Dodge B4B. Its been clipped with a '66 Fury for a 440 powerplant and all the suspension, and about half way through a 4" chop. I'll finish it eventually! A little over a year ago I sold off my new car and bought a '72 Challenger, now my daily driver. Just couldn't take all the new car **** and needed to get back into something with a soul. Since then I've also acquired a couple of '71 Dodge Dart GT's, but none of those are really the sort of thing to bring me here. I like the musclecar era, but I got my start in 50's British stuff so it was only a matter of time before I got back to even older stuff. A few months ago my g/f (SickGirl on here) found a '55 Dodge Coronet, and that renewed my interest in the older iron. My latest find is a 1937 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup, which has been sitting in a field for the last 50 years. Its in really good shape actually, especially considering that. Mostly complete, rear end still turns, transmission still shifts, not so sure about the engine, still sorting it out. So we went out and dragged it out of the field and home and I started looking up all the threads on here about the old trucks. I was planning on posting up a few days ago, but I got to the part where I was gonna say what I was planning for the truck and just wasn't sure. Funny enough, a few minutes later I found a "old Chrysler Hemi" for sale on the 'net and I had a plan . Strange how that works. I quickly found a bunch of threads on the 331 hemi's, and was sold even before I looked at it. (B*** sold me completely with the video's on this thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=387548&highlight=331+hemi&page=2 ) Picked it up this afternoon. 1951 331 Chrysler Hemi, fresh .030 over bore, complete with heads, rockers, old cam, crank, 2v intake, two transmissions and the clutch, torque converter and all the bell housings (gonna have to read up on that, one transmission having both is new to me!). Like the truck, I still need some time to sort through it to see where its at. Anyway, it seems like I've got a whole resto thread to start up here before I get too carried away. If anyone knows of a machinist in the greater Sacramento area that knows anything about Mopars or old Hemi's I'm all ears, I need someone more local than I have now and I don't think he's a hemi guy anyway. Awesome site you have here, can't wait to post up some progress. Here's some pictures... The '37 as she sat for the last 50+ The truckload of hemi parts (and a few random extra's)... The '53 as of now... And the Challenger, in case any of the locals see me running around. She sure looks good from 20' away! (can't see the flintstone floorboards from back there )
Hey, those cars look familiar. What's funny, guys, is that he didn't even list HALF the project there really are!!
True! But the darts don't really fit as well here, and I don't have any pictures of the healey as is. And the bikes don't count right? Thanks for the warm welcome, I'm sure I'll be on here a bunch with everything I have to do!
Welcome from Central Valley Cal. I have always loved MOPARS, had a '66 Dart GT long time ago, heck in the '60s Mopars were the hot ticket... We have PT Cruiser now as our daily, lots of HAMB joke about those but we love it...
