Does anyone know if Mor-Drop is still around? I have several '40 front axles and was looking to have one of those dropped for use on a model A project. I'm planning on splitting the '40 wishbone and using that, so the '40 axle is the correct size (2 1/4") for the wishbone mounts, whereas an ealier axles will be too small (2"). Is there any downside to using the '40 axle vs. and earlier one (seems like most people seek the '32-34 front axles for this). One other question, does anyone have experienc with a guy named Dave Mann in Pheonix who does this work?
Mor Drop is still around. I contacted them a while back and for the price, you can but a new dropped axle. Don
I think mor drop is still around. 40 axles have less length where it is needed to drop them. The max drop you can go with one of these is about 2 inches, whereas about 4 inches or so with a '28-'36 type axles. you can use the earlier type axle with 40 bones, if you just rework them, or make some 1/4" spacers. the spring dimensions change, as did the mounting from year to year on these. Look in the tech-o-matic. there is a post about axle dropping in there. Very labor intensive. David
you can only get about 2in of drop outta a 40, that is the disadvantage. you can go through dave (roadstersdotcom) hamb member, or ElPolacko (602-278-6800) he offers a hamb discount! either way, the axle will be "dropped" by the same person, they are just the retailers. the quality is supperior to moredrop, and turnarround is much faster.
Get ahold of Elpolacko. He has a guy in Pheonix that does them. I think he posted that you could send the axle to his shop (Industrial Chassis) and he would get it dropped and sent back to you. I just PM'd him the other day about another matter and he got right back to me. Frank
Be aware that the later axles that don't have the spring on top like the A are 2 inches wider between the spring perch holes than the A axle. You'll need a custom length 33 1/2 inch spring if you put the spring on top of the axle. Also the Model A crossmember takes a narrower spring than the 2" width later springs. Not a biggie if you're going to get a new spring anyway.
Stay away from Mor-drop..they are the biggest rip off people I know..I sent them a mint 32 heavy off a resto. and told them I wanted a 3 in drop the first axle they sent back was a model A so back in the mail to ship at my expense they then sent me an axle that was a POS it had shock holes drilled into it and it was 12 degrees off on one side and 4 on the other. so I called them again and there response was...hey you sent a 32 axle and thats what you got back..Very rude people on the phone, thats been 6 yrs ago and Im still mad...cant you tell?
Mor Drop 510-261-1888 600 29 Ave Oakland CA They are expensive. I've only talked with them on the phone and they weren't very helpful or friendly. I wasn't expecting to get my ass kissed. I've never dealt with ElPolako but I'd try him first. If you're dead set on a Mor Drop you'll pay the price for bragging rights.
My experience with Mor Drop is that their quality is poor, poor, and piss poor. The king pin holes were egg shaped and had to be honed extensively for a poor fit. Avoid like the plague! pigpen Bite me, burn me, beat me, make me write bad checks?
Model A axles(28-31) are 2 1/4" at the spring perch. 32-36 are 2". 37 and up are 2 1/4". You can run a Model A axle with the 40 wishbone and you wont need a spacer. You should be able to get at least a 4" drop with the A axle. I would not recommend using the 40 axle either, can't be dropped enough. I have used the guy in Phoenix and been very happy with the results. His name is Adam Young, you can contact him through Industrial Chassis, as previously posted. He has a very fast turnaround time, less than 2 weeks for my axle. Also I think he keeps A axles in stock, so you may be able to buy one outright, without having to send your's in.
392 hemi, I agree with Tom Branch. I also have one of Adam's dropped A axles and....yes...very happy with the result! You can also ask Adam to help you with drilling of holes in your axle! Good luck ! /

I tried to link to the tech he sent showing how he drops axels. Look in the tech files about page four or five for his dropping axel tech.
Very useful info. Thanks alot. Do yall know if they do any straighening of axles that have already been dropped?
Thanks for all the useful information. I have a '34 axle and I'm going to use that instead of the '40. And I'm going to send it to the guy in Pheonix, not Mor-Drop. From the pics on roadsters.com, it looks like the guy does nice work.
wow , this is a 6 year old thread... and i can't believe i didn't respond to it then years ago i had two axles dropped by Mor-Drop and both of them were not right
While, we're discussing Mor-Drop; I just (opportunity) bought a mor-drop axle (a light 32). Not sure if I'll use it or just hang it off the wall but I have a few questions; 1) How can I tell if it's "right" (is there a way to measure it here at home?). 2) How can I tell if it is dropped my mor-drop? I asked the seller but they didn;t respond with an answer so I'm guessing they didn't know or just called it "more-drop" to get the sale (which is ironic after some of the comments on this thread about more-drop.
I am really sorry to hear the complaints about Mor-drop. My friend and I used to run John's dragster back in the early 60's. He was a great Guy. We were in our early 20's, and he must have been in his 60's. Taught me a lot about Blacksmithing. I assume that its now run by someone else, and its a shame that they have ruined his reputation!.
Go with Greg Haynes (296 V8) 530-333-4043. Good prices, good turn around time and great looking axles! He has done 2 for me and for several friends and we're all smiles.
just for general info... the last 2-3 times I drove by more drop the doors were closed, lot was empty.
I used them back in 2001. The guy was a real deal. "you send me the money, I send you your axle". I got lucky and got a good one. It was for an AD Chevy truck. Maybe it was done by the previous owner. Very few things last forever.
