I just got back last night about 6:00 p.m. from Bonneville. Speed Week was fine, thank you. But, World Finals was fantastic. A little more easy going since there was no 3 to 4 hour wait to run. The most I say was maybe 20 cars in line. Usually more like 6. Weather was beautiful at about 70 degrees. I crewed on 2 cars this time. We got Jack Kelly in the 200 Mile Club with an average of 236 against a 231 record. Last year at Speed Week we ran 228, 228, 228 and 227. Knocking on the door but still frustrating. For your information, you don't just run over 200 to get in "The Club". You have to set a record at over 200. 'Tain't easy. The other car I helped on was the Wilson and Waters Fuel Roadster. We moved our own record from 247 to 251 and then to 257. That car is one runnin' son of a *****. Maurice (Flying Dutchman here on the HAMB) has a great video of the car on his site, deadendcruisers.com. Speaking of Maurice, he was there for a couple of days. He screwed up and left before the Burklands ran and set a new piston engined, wheel driven Land Speed Record with runs of 418 and 415 for an average of 417. We were pitted at the 3 mile mark and I was standing there both times when the car ran. No ****, you really have to see something like that at least once in your life. Freddy Dannenfelzer ran 361 in a Lakester for the fastest run ever in an open wheeled car. The course was the same one we used at Speed Week and kept Dan Warner and everyone in "Impound" really busy. A pretty decent number of records were set. The ELMOBILE ran like a top and got me there and back again without incident. I've gotta admit, I'm just about ready for windows and a roof. Mike Bishop and Vern Tardel were there but spent most of their time ****in' around with the movie. I'm sure it will be wonderful but they missed some great racing. This was my first time there in October I'm afraid I've become a convert. I barely scratched the surface of what transpired during the week. Go to the SCTA website for more. They've even got pictures of me AAAAND the ELMOBILE(tm) Wayno
The Burkland car comes from my home state, and that was kind of a bittersweet deal for the Burklands, Herb "Fergie" Ferguson, their engine builder died of a stroke at his sons wedding last month. It woulda been nice if he'd have seen those runs. Fergie was one of the best hemi guys we'll ever see.
[ QUOTE ] pictures? [/ QUOTE ] http://www.scta-bni.org/ That's probably the best deal for pictures. I'm still too stucking foopid to post photos. Wayno
Hey Elmo! You made it back in one piece huh?!! What's this guy's name again who did 254 MPH on a motorcycle(!!!!) That's f*ckin' Insane!!!
The gentlemens name is John Noonan from Huntington Beach. I was there working the 2 mile long course post. Turbo John not only breaks a record, but puts 50-60 miles on it!Look through the SCTA Bville record book or website and read his many accomplishments. Tom Shannon Magna, Utah
We didn't miss much, Wayno. The movie "pits" were located just past the five-mile mark and we were able to see and hear many great runs as well as some scary spins including the crash of the black lakester that shed pieces for a half-mile or better after the 'chute opened. Ugly scene, but was glad to hear the driver survived with no apparent damage to his person. Congrats on the good performance of both cars! Are you guys going to share the hats throughout the crews?
[ QUOTE ] Congrats on the good performance of both cars! Are you guys going to share the hats throughout the crews? [/ QUOTE ] That Red Hat is riveted to Jacks head. Ain't nothin' could get it off. Besides that, I wouldn't dream of dishonoring the members of that club by wearing a hat. It's going to take time and a concerted effort but I'll get my own. I've got it in me. Wayno
Sounds like and excellent week Wayno I've got to hurry up and get to the age where I've got more spare time to take in all these events. On the other hand, maybe I'l ake my time and enjoy the trip. There are more world finals pictures on Joe Amo's site Follow this link to Land Racing dot coms World Finals pictures
Glad to see ya' made it home in one piece. Yea, watching and hearing the 400mph plus cars run just gives my arms chicken skin (goose bumps). Here is a link to the Vesco 458mph from 01'. Click here There is your car...... Chris Nelson Kansas

I need to get a hold of the owner of the Kowalski Special...a Bonneville Model A coupe that ran there this year (Pix in the scta web site link for Bonneville this year).. number 723 in xf/vgcc cl***...Black no gloss paint, chopped top, flatty) and thats all I know about the car. I'm hoping the owner is a HAMB'r, or some one here knows this guy and how to reach him. I am in the midst of building a coupe for the street along the same lines and profile but an unchanneled highboy with a major haircut and would like to ask a few questions for the build of mine, so as to avoid mistakes that are preventable. Any help is appreciated. Tried to post a pic from that link, but came up jes a lil too big.
PM me about the Kowalski Special. Hes from my area. I did an article for CKD about his shop and now he hates me, so don't mention my name. Long story. Spike
They weren't at the world finals, but did anyone see Boarzilla at Speed week? The worlds fastest Harley. I met the team a couple weeks ago, they have a performance exhaust shop here. Great guys.
