Wanted to let everyone know about "The Last Rock and Roll Show Cruise" taking place at Bob's Big Boy Broiler in Downey, California on September 19th, 2009.
This landmark 1958 restaurant, as most of you on the HAMB already know, is nearing the end of its renovation after an incredible effort to save it by the people who love the restaurant and its owner Jim Louder. (Fellow HAMBer, Kevin of Cyclone Racing Equipment, has been instrumental in this process).
This cruise for charity will surely be one to remember and the pre-registration button is now active on my website: http://www.thelastrockandrollshow.com
This option will be available until September 12, 2009 but space is limited so register early.
The vital details can be found on the website and we will continue to update this thread through the day of the event. Thanks!

We appreciate all the comments here in regard to the event at Bobs, and respect everyone's input. There are a few things that need to be clarified about the event:

*First and foremost this is a charity fund raising event for a very worth while organization.
*The entry fee, food, posters and dash plaques are a 100% donation.
*Books will be available for anyone that wants one while they last. Book sales are also a 100% donation (not the "proceeds", "net", or "cost" but 100% of what you give for the book will be donated to the charity).
*If anyone that wants to attend, and does not want the food, poster, plaque etc..they can do so with a donation of $20.00 on the day of the event. If we have any dash plaques left (we have 200) we will give what we have left to anyone that asks for them that has a car at the event.

We want to make sure that everyone understands that this is certainly not a money making event for anyone involved. In fact, those of us who have planned the event, have spent many hours and donated a great deal of money to make sure we have a fun and memorable event that benefits a great cause.

If anyone has ANY questions about this event, please feel free to call me. My personal cell phone number is: 615. 482.5435. This will be a good time and we hope that as many of you that can, will join us. Thanks much.

50 bucks for a reserved space???? trophys?????? This is not what Harveys was all about. If part goes to a charity why not just have everyone donate 10 bucks. In this economy 50 bucks is a lot just to park at a Hamburger stand. Yea i know its a landmark{i use to cruise it when i was a kid} but i feel by having judging and trophys and charging 50 bucks is not in the "spirit" of the way it was! Just my humble opinion.

$50 is way too much, plus gas from san diego and back.Would do it if it was cheaper. Its a great cause, but not in these crappy times.

OH HELL NO 50 bucks NO THANKS....I have been to every fundraiser cruise we had for Johnnies!!! From the original ghost cruise to the one we had this spring...WHERE WERE YOU??? THE CARS ARE THE SHOW WHY DO WE HAVE TO PAY 50 bucks...With out the cars you have no show!!!!! Its like Tom Cruise paying to be in a movie...Does not make sense does it!!!! I this will be one event I WILL NOT SUPPORT here, and I will encourage ALL my friends not to trust me!!!!
I would rather spend 50 bucks on Gas to cruise in my car then to sit there for one day!

I've always felt the same way. You spend your time, blood and sweat building an expensive car that most likely can't be replaced, and then someone want's you to pay up, to make their show a success. WTF? Start charging the spectators to look at the cars, don't charge the car owners. How many cars were hit last year while leaving a car shaw that they had to pay to get into?

Ditto ,to all the above! This makes no sense after all the support for the restoration, from the Hambers.

$50.00 for a cruise? Are you serious?
Did you type that with a straight face?
I don't think even a gold chainer would fall for that one.
At that price- that will usually buy you a weekend show- not a few hours in the lot of a burger joint. Someone fucked up big time on the research for this one.
I can go to Mels for free.

$50 is to rich for my blood right now.

  11. I have been onboard with the Broiler deal from the beginning. I have two questions, #1 Why $50? Prosperity is Stlll just around the corner. #2 Who is Del Toro and why is he involved? I'm sure not questioning his motives, but,I wonder what a Na$hville Cat has to do with the Broiler.

But, $50?? Time to rethink your drink, methinks...

Phil raises a good point.......who is Del Toro from Nashville....?

    and like others have said i will be dropping in when its free.{course i wont get the super-duperlater Plaque i guess:D}

  14. Hey Cyclone Kevin, care to weigh in on this?

  15. This is not looking good, I would hate for this one deal to leave a bad vibe for everyone toward the Broiler. Jim and his crew are putting in a lot of work and money for this project.
Maybe if DEL TORO would go back to the intro page and do an introduction instead of a parts search, it might help people know him.

I think calling this the "Last Rock and Roll Show Cruise" makes it sound like the end rather then the new beginning. I know he is trying to play off his new book, however..
As for paying to park your car, this arguement has been going on since the early '70s, and there are more shows now then ever. I get it, but $50 for a one day show is a little steep. I know it is a fund raiser and I appreciate the cause, but we are doing a fundraiser show in Merced the weekend before and including two lunches for $25.
I hope his show is a success, for the Broilers sake, and I hope this doesn't turn people off to the Broiler. Good Luck DEL TORO

Kevin, Maybe you can help out here...

While I think everybody should do their part to support, I do agree with everyone, $50 is too much, especially with the current economy. I am glad to see its almost done though!

I have to agree as well, $50 way too rich for my blood. $20 would be a little more tolerable. I will be waiting for the first Wed cruise. This will not turn me off from the Broiler. The fund raiser will not be for me. I wish Del Torro and Jim the best of luck and I hope they have a very successful fund raiser.

I sounds like it's for a great cause, but forcing people to donate that much by asking such a high entry fee is kind of like shooting yourself in the foot because as you see, not many people are going to pay that. If it was maybe $10 or $20, you'd get a full lot of cars, plus a crowd who would probably donate the rest.

I would love to go, but it would cost me around $100 in gas, plus $50....man.

Wow I can not even imagine spending $50 dollars to sit at a local car show for a few hours. It is sad all the people that have supported this and they pretty much are being asked to pay up or get out!

Tieing a book promotion{which it seems is the prime motive} to a charity doesnt seem right.

  26. I agree! It also seems to be diminishing the reopening of the Broiler and to me that is sad.
If they had wanted to do this promotion sometime after it had reopened, fine. And as with all events we can choose to go or not go based on perceived value, but this just seem ill timed.

Right!! The first gracing of the place should have been the Hambers who supported this restoration of the Landmark.
