Bought a used lift, couple questions?(Lift Dist. of America)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Zapato, Aug 21, 2009.

  1. Bought a 2 post 9,000 lb capacity lift last week. made by Lift Dift. of America. Can't seem to find much info on it or the company online. Near as I know it was bought new in 1993 for way too much money but my cost was more than fair.

There is one issue and that is width at the top of the arms, its about 6 inches too wide to clear my roof joists rest of area above lift is open and clear. Spacer bar across top is just a guard for the balancing cables and hydraulic hoses. So I'm thinking of cutting 8 inches out of the bar and rewelding the end back on. Then figure that the cables will have to shortened a like amount. That should be no problem for a rigging outfit to fix.

So has anyone else done this? Anyone have a service/operating manual for this lift? I really don't want to set it up kitty-wampus in the shop so narrowing it a few inches seems like the best solution.

Get a hold of a good carpenter and modify the roof joists, IMO its easier to fool with wood than modify a lift..
