I really expect this to be a fun weekend, Aug28th trhough Sept 1st New museum, new displays new location. Its a five day weekend is packed full of events. The Early Ford V8 chapter of Indiana and Ohio have just recently built a new museum in the car capital Auburn. Art deco design They filled it with collections from The Beller Museum collection was moved in August, 2008, the Towe Museum collection was moved in the spring of 2009, and the Garlits collection was moved in November, 2008 by a volunteer group of V-8ers who spent a week on the road to accomplish this monumental task. They used their own trucks and trailers and they all drove over 2000 miles to make it happen. The Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing consists of two buildings. The first is a 20,000 sg.ft. building that houses 59 cl***ic restored Fords, Mercury’s and hot rods and a second, larger building displaying 160 hot rods and drag cars. The Early Ford V-8 Foundation collection was gathered in the middle of the first building where it was prominently featured in and around a special wooden structure made to look like an art deco era garage. What set this space apart was a beautiful restored Early Ford dealership sign hanging near it, several gl*** display cases holding memorabilia and another neon sign inside the “garage”. This “fake” garage was once a unique display piece for SEMA shows and it was donated to the Early Ford V-8 Foundation by Bob Drake Reproductions of Oregon. Anyone going to this??? I'd like to make it. Thats exactly what we plan to do. I expect quite a few cars to this event with the opening of all the new museums. The events sound well organized and varied. Not just hanging around the same place all weekend. My wife and I will be taking the creme 37 coupe in my avitar. Stop and say hi Jack. Rick
All that info on there page, but I didn't see an address or a directions link. I see its in Auburn, is that bottom, middle, or top of the state? Might like to drive out. Thanks for the heads up, looks interesting.
Actually, Auburn is in the northeast part of the state. About 20 miles north of Ft. Wayne on I-69. I'm here visiting my daughter and had no idea that this was happening. Will definately check it out.
I went through all of the info and did not see a registration fee for the event. Anyone know the price? What about spectators can they come?
Will definetly look you up. I'll be driving my yellow 39 DeLuxe coupe. Will be in the Display category.
The fee is 100.00 for the five day event. Alittle pricey but they must be taking an awful big bite with that new building and moving all that into them. Yes, spectators are welcome, I don't think there is a spectator fee, call them and find out, in fact I heard they may have a hot rod or modified cl*** if you want to get involved in the show. Either way I'm going to visit the museums so it'll be fun. For the wife's interest.... This is 25 minutes away from the new Vera Bradley Outlet.
I went by the new building last night...Looks pretty cool. I plan on going there this morning to see if it will be open before the event.
Is it near the Auburn Cord Museum Glen? I talked to the guy organizing the registration and he indicated you will be able to register after arrival during the weekend. Not just beforehand.
I live about 20 miles from there, if anyone is travelling out and has mechanical issues, give me a holler, I can help out. Jeremy 260-609-5130
No, the ACD Museum is in town. The new V8 Museum is across I-69 from the Kruse Auction Park, on the same grounds as the Victory Museum. I peeked in the windows and it looks pretty neat, but will have to visit the next time I'm in Auburn as it wasn't open this weekend.
It is prob about 5 miles or so from there. It is very nice as is the WW2 Victory Museum in the Kruse building. Sadly I am going to Columbus this weekend, I live about 20 miles from the place.
I was in Auburn last week and had a great time visiting the ACD museum, the truck museum and the museums at Kruse's Victory Park. Take a few hours from the V-8 museum and see the others', too.
I'm going with my Dad and cousin, but we can't all fit in the coupe, so I think we are just going to drive my Truck.
We had a great time. I saw you driving around Rick, but we were never stopped at the same place at the same time. I'll post some pics tomorrow. Swap meet was small but pretty good. We each got some great deals. Now who has a single 21 stud cheater head to sell me?
My father is debuting his fully restored L29 Cord at the ACD show next weekend. I'll have to tell him about the building (probably already knows). Maybe he'll get to check it out. Now I gotta go back out there. Was there when I was like 14 or 15. I'm 36 now. Gotta go see what's changed.
Here are some pics from the V8 show we went to in Auburn. We had a good time, and of course I bought that Aluminum head at the swap meet. Dad bought some running boards, which are now on the 5 window while the running boards from the 5 window are getting dipped. My cousin bought a front floor mat for the '36 Fordoor. Since the swap meet was on saturday, there wasn't an actual car show until Sunday. So the cars were spread out all over the place. All the pics are here: http://www.hotrodhucksters.com/chad/v8show/ Navarro! My Dad, happy that we finally found a '36 at the show. We were ready to call it a day, when this showed up. Then #3 rolled in. We were on our way out of the lot when we saw this. We decided we better stick around. We drove over to Applebee's and found this 4 door from PA. I saw PeteJoe pull in while we were inside, but never did find him again. Again, in the car to leave, and saw this drive by. We followed him to the hotel. It was a filfthy mess. This guy who was every bit of 80 got out, followed by his wife. They were really nice. They drove all the way from Kansas. Then we walked over to this one. Finally a coupe! After looking over this car, my Dad and my cousin both started in on me that my coupe needs painted. Driving away, we spotted a sedan delivery! Definitely a child of the late 70s. We drove over to the next exit to the Ford Museum and saw this: And the first '35. Then another roadster. By then my camera died. But as we got to the museum, there were a ****load of cars behind the museum including 4 more '36s. We had a great time. The new museum was neat but small. I wish my camera had enough juice for that. They had all kinds of flathead stuff in there. Click on that first link for More non-1936 content.
Dang it Django, How did we miss one another?? Thanks for the Pictures. I forgot my camera with all those museums too!
