Want to get smoothies and tires for my car. Rims: 15x5 and 15x12, 4 3/4 lug pattern. Tires: 185/R7015 front & 285/R7015 rear. Any and all suggestions appreciated.
Do a search on the 285's. They have become very difficult to find and expensive. I think they can be bought from Coker. There was just a thread on some alternative sizes earlier in the week. Sounds like a cool combo though
Fifteen by twelve is awfully wide for that tire. I have a customers pair here for mock up that are on ten inch wides and they look okay. If I had my choice, I would mount them on eights. It stands the sidewall up a little more and doesn't look quite as "puffy". same deal with the fronts, five is a little narrow for that tire. Six in my opinion would look a bit better. What kind of car is this going on? BF goodrich does catalogue these tires in they're T/A line so I would start there.
Earl What type/kind of car is this going on?? Info so that I can make a bit of better edumakated guess
As of about Feb of this year, Coker is selling the 285/70R/15's. BFG quit selling them a couple of years ago as a T/A series tire. Coker told me theirs are almost the same.
31 Model A Ford 2 Dr. Jag rear, mustang II, 307, TH350. Currently running centerlines with 15/12 & 15/4 rims, old tires BFG same size on back and 165's toyo's on front. Probably will sell centerlines. Earl
Earl Fendered car or No??? For tires I would go with 255/70/15s rear and 155/70/15 front. For rims I would go with 15/10s rear and 15/6 front. Measure your need for back spacing on the front as well as the rear for the rims. Once this is done call Vintiques and get them made. You might want to have them powdercoat them as well. Just my .02
I've always used rims the same "width" as the tire's stated / actual tread width. An 8" wheel gets a tire with about 8" of tread width. As the outer rim width at the bead is generally 1" wider overall than the stated wheel width, this works well with the tire's stated section width (which measures the distance between the two bulges in the side walls) and generally makes for a pretty good looking tire and rim combo. In this case, the sidewalls are neither stretched too far on a overly wide rim, and there is still a litlle comfort / cushion in not having a near vertical sidewall. Nor are the rims too narrow / tires too wide, which will cause the tires to wander on the rim a bit and possibly rolll under on turns so severely the tire's bead could slip off the rim. That's always been my plan, anyway. When I choose tires and rims, I first look at gear ratios, ride heights / axle heights, overall tire diameters, and any required offsets, along with the style thing. Then I try to get a wheel and tire that works for what I want. If not (sometimes either the style, offset or the tire size isn't available) then I try again. Gary
I wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions and I think it turned out great. I ended up with Coker Smoothies, (red paint) with 15"x8" rear and 15"x6" front with Coker whitewalls, 285 70 15 rear and 185 70 15 front with smooth rings and moons. They look great and I want to thank you all for your input. As soon as I get some pics I'll post them. Shorty
I am running that same combination except 15x10 on the rear.... wheels from the wheelkid here on the HAMB and BF Goodrich Silvertown wide whites from Coker... able to use the alliance discount at both places... <== check out my avatar...

Judging by the picture it does look like the 8" wide rims have the right rim width for that tire. I sure wouldn't go to a 12" wide rim for tires that size.
