sure look like chevy to me. damn i guess these things are catching on. im going with the 2x2 and 2g carb setup, with an s10 t5 behind it. most likely offy v-covers too. i am probably going to pull it apart to inspect but really dont want to rebuild it yet, id like to mock it all up and get everything fit, drive it, see how i like it before building it. who knows though, you know how everything snow balls. i liked the rover as its real short and light. i wont have to chop out my firewall. nothing against that but this car is real clean.

  3. What book is best for the ins and outs of these Buick/Olds/Rover V8's

I know there are a few.

I'm going to put in another plug for D&D Fabrications,Inc - www.aluminumv8.com - their web site has most of the info you're looking for - interchangeability, speed equipment, replacement parts, using 300 ci parts to make a big engine, etc. I have 2 aluminum V8's - one in a 62 Skylark and another in a 49 Crosley (??), and have used these guys a lot. Dan LaGru has worked with these engines for MANY years and knows about everything - and is great to work with. His son Mark is now handling most of the day to day stuff now. AND he is a hot rodder !! :):)

Both the Buick and Olds 215 thermostat housing have the byp*** hose connection - I believe the later 300 engines do also.

If these engines get hot, they will drop the liner down and the rings will hook on top of liner. I've got a dis***embled 96, 4.0 out back if you want it. Needs lots of work, price FREE. Frank

Frank, was the 4.0 the same size main journals as the 3.5 (I think it was, but I'm kinda tired now too).

I put one in a Datsun 280Z about 20 yrs. ago. Used one of the D&D adapters and it worked out well. Have a couple of the '64 Buick 300's with aluminum heads that I'm thinking of putting together one of these days.

Dont bother with the old stuff ,too many reasons to p*** on it all .....like worn ali oil pumps that are part of the timing chain cover and idle at zero oil pressure ,stuff like that .Why not just rip a newer 4.4 litre 4bolt mains block from a range rover discovery .? They are a heaps better plant while remaining basically the same form externally .

triumph stags came with rover motors starting in 73 or 74. They are good reliable motors as long as you stay on top of them. dont let it run hot, or you'll have problems. they'll see well over 200k with a little care. I think we have 2 3.5's sitting in our shop, maybe one is a 3.9, i forget. if you're interested in one, send me a pm, i'll ask the boss if he wants to move it. they were both running when we pulled them a little over a year ago...they are complete minus the computer as far as i know. maybe missing a few little bits, but the carb. manifold would fix most of that anyway, we do lots of rovers here, so if you need oddball parts, we might have them layin around. but as someone else said, be careful with the old oil pumps...
