Few cool pictures from the road this morning, No luck at the temp agency for work, but i had my camera and tripod with me. Time exposure at 5:00 am in front of the Coke bottling plant in Valdosta , The old clock on he sign still works On 133 just past Berlin, been meaning to get this picture forever discovered the little turn around I had pulled into for the previous picture was actually an abandoned gas station!! as many times as i've p***ed it, I never noticed, I think the building was re sided at one point. If you look close you can see the concrete island overgrown with trees, where the pumps used to be,Turns out my wife knows the daughter of the couple who used to own it, both deceased now. Couple of shots I just couldn't p*** up, makes me think of the old jackson Brown song from the seventies, late for the sky. can't go wrong with an open road and a blue sky
I'm going to start carring my camera in the car from now on....Everytime I'm on the road, I see something I'd like to capture. Nice work...Thanks Centurion9
I hate to leave the house without a camera anymore. Never know what you might see. Cool pics, I love early morning. Its the getting out of bed in time for it I hate.
I'll try to find out what kind of station that used to be, my wife remembers the people who owned it before they died also, but she can't remember what the station was, we have a lot of these old buildings hidden around here. If they do the idiotic 4 laning of this road from Valdosta to Moultie, everything on both sides of the road for 40 miles will be destroyed. Completly uneeded and unnessessary. the "traffic problems" they speak of simply don't exist, i've traveled this 40 mile stretch of road hundreds of times and never had a major issue. We get traffic a few times a year for the big expo and the car shows, nothing to justify tearing up all the history and the mess not to mention what it would cost.
Ahhh yes, another road to nowhere. This comes from the "spend it or lose it" catch that federal highway dollars come with.
Ah yes, looks like home to me! There's no big attractions to speak of in South Georgia, but always something to see. Thanks for posting those pix...really miss the time I spent in that area when times were...well, just different.
Yea I like it here, been here ten years, reminds of home in Ohio, everything is flat lol. we have some hills but nothing major. makes for some spectacular summer thunderstorms, being this close to Florida
Hey Lostforawhile, sometime when you feel adventurous, head over to Douglas and find where hwy 32 and the byp*** meet. If the stuff is still there, it will absolutely freak you out!
dougl*** GA? i"ve probably been there but just can't remember off the top of my head, I know where some old untouched stations still stand between Omega and Ellington back road no one ever uses anymore
I appreciate the positive comments, I will take some more but something has gone wrong with the (off topic) daily driver, so it's parked, severe overheating problems. One of these days i'll find a way to get a good SLR type camera, I try to capture pictures of these old stations and buildings when I can, you never know, they may be gone tomorrow. Just like in downton Moultrie here, never got a good picture of the old mule barn, it predated cars here, the city just demolished it for a parking lot, tore down the old Chero Cola building too, made the land a new unemployment office. The sign on the side of that building was close to a hundred years old. These pictures were taken with a Sanyo Digimax A402, small compact camera, but takes suprisingly good pictures, lots of features crammed into it.
Nice pictures! You should be looking for a photographer job. I did this for a while but started taking too many photos and not arriving at the destination on time. Here's some photos from a 150 mile round trip, all on the same day, shot outta' the car window.
Hey lost4awhile, my pops lives in Thomasville. We have been by that coke plant. Cool pics of cool places. And your swap meet in Moultrie is great. Or at least it used to be
Great photos! Always enjoy good photgraphy. The little town of Sewing Circle GA was named in R&C years ago in the Vintage Tin column. Drove over there from Eufaula AL and enjoyed the day cruising around an little town from a past age in my 49 Chevy pickup.
