I need help. My Mopar flathead six cylinder engine has the following markings:Stamped on the block: P28(star)II0656(star)Block Casting # 148492943 (rear driver side)Head Casting # 1616823-18Intake Casting # 1550205 (with 19 under this number)Dist. has three numbers: 1546755 3K932123 IAT-4101BCan anyone tell me what I have? Dodge? Plymouth? Year? Thanks!
p 28 is a 230 cubic inch 23.5 inch long head engine as mentioned from a 56. 125 hp @3600 rpm, 200 lb ft torque at 1600, 7.6 to 1 CR. 3 5/8 bore 4 5/8 stroke.
The IAT-4101B is your distributor type. Autolite. 1954-57 Plymouth Six. 16* mechanical advance, all in @ 2700 rpm. 16* of vacuum advance; movement starts @ 4.75" Hg, all in @ 14" Hg 0.020" point gap. Good distributor to have for those engines. Hud
Hey guy I have the same engine 1616823 with a 2 speed ****** It's from a mail truck. My question is what other ****** can I put to make this thing go faster?
Go faster? off the line, top speed or? A more modern diff with say 3.23 gears from a 1980s mopar 8 1/4 rear end could increase your top end with lower RPMs. If you are talking off the line, then a standard trans say a Mopar A833 4 spd trans, where 4th is overdrive, 1975-85 Mopars Aspens Volares, trucks, vans etc. You would need an adapter plate for this swap. Or 1980s NWC Borg and Warner T5 5 speed trans, but you do need a standard trans clutch housing for these 2 swaps
Also try this website for detailed info on 30s-50s Mopar Flathead cars and trucks, you will get great info and support on there, http://p15-d24.com/
Maybe a sail added to the top, and always drive downwind and downhill? A V8 is the only thing that's going to make it move like it has a V8.
You mean a 2 speed Powerflite automatic? There is nothing wrong with the trans, if you want to go faster it would be better to change the rear axle gear ratio. It may not be necessary to change the whole rear axle ***embly, just the gears. First step is to find out what ratio you have now. Jack up the rear axle, mark the driveshaft with chalk and a matching mark on the diff housing. Also mark the tire and the body. Slowly turn the wheel exactly one turn. Count the turns made by the driveshaft. That is your ratio. Also take a picture of the rear axle and come back, someone will know what to do.
Sounds like you have a 4.** rear gear.....this would account for the low top speed. It would be easy to confirm if you have a tach. Go to this link: http://ctny.audiworld.com/mark/s4/gears/gear_calc.htmland plug in the rpm, speed, tire size and see what pops up. Very cute truck BTW. .
