Just wondering what you all are running and if you have a preference.

The BFG's thru Coker are pretty expensive. Diamond Back DB1 and DB2 are still expensive, but not as much as BFG's.

Is there that much of a difference between the two?

I just got a set of BFG Silvertowns, the new 75 series, narrower and larger diam than the previous 70 series. If you need to run a modern profile tire, (wider, smaller diam. ) then Diamond Backs have a lot more choices.

There's been a lot of discussion about this, but I have heard/read more negative about Coker and more positive about DB. This goes for both the product itself and for customer service.

A coupla things I like about the DBs (just looking at them, I don't have any... yet!) is that they are closer to the "bias-ply look" than the Cokers, and they have no lettering embossed on the outer sidewalls. I have also heard that the DBs are easier to keep white and don't yellow as bad as Cokers.

    Thanks guys!

DB's are about $120 less (total) than Cokers.

Ya gotta save the bucks when you can!

I've had many sets of DB's on different cars and have been pleased with them all.

Two buddies had coker radials and had yellowing troubles plus a bad belt. They wouldn't help him even though they were only 4 months old(the belt ones)

    Diamondback for me..

I've also had trouble with Cokers. I had 2 tires with bad belts and the white wall crackes and turnes yellow. I only paid $25 ea. they were blems, so I shouldn't complain too much.

This has been something i've been thinking about too.
Eventually i'm gonna need a set for my 53.
I have Cokers on both my rod's, bias ply's. The're ok, but the white walls have started to show small cracks on them.

I'm probably going to run radials on the 53, and seeing how all you guy's say DB are good stuff, i'll probably go that route.

    Thanks for this post. [IMG]

Happy, what size you running on your '54?
They look like they fit the opening nice.

DB's all the way...have them on the 32 now.

I have the Silvertowns on the merc, they have done okay but are very brown now.

I am not a fan of the other ones that I said I would not mention anymore. (at least by name)

A friend of mine introduced me to Diamond Backs and I have almost 10k miles on them without one problem.
Two other guys in Dewey are running Cokers and they are not having a problem either. I guess flip a coin.

    Happy Trails,

I guess either way they are not cheap.

    4 BD's (2- 215/75R15 and 2- 225/70R15) plus shipping to Colorado is $656 [IMG] .

  16. I too, am in the market for a new set of whites. This post has been very timely. Two questions: who makes Diamondbacks and who's carries them? I know BFGoodrich makes the Silvertowns. Thanx all.

Has anyone used the Sumitomo HTR200 wide white walls? I haven't priced them, but there is a Jeep Cherokee running around L.A. with them on it. Not quite traditional, but they would look good on a daily driver. I think they only size they come in is 225/70-15.

Frank is right on. The DBs are great. I also put a set on the 37 that HotRodHan now has. No problems with those either.

Diamonback tires are mostly Bridgestone/Firestone units. I think they have one model that's something else, but I can't remember which brand. As far as where to get them, well, you get them from Diamonback direct.

And FWIW, the outsides of their tires have ALL lettering buffed off (including the size, treadwear rating, etc.).

My Cokers split out and bubbled up at the rim ( 3 out of 4 tires) and I have several friends who had the same problems. The Cokers are holding up my parts car now and I run Diamond Black Cl***ics with good results.

Several have mentioned problems with Coker's, The question I thought was BFG from "coker".
we had 3 sets of coker radials, nothing but problems. The last go around we got BFG (from coker) not made by coker. we have had them on now for 3 years, They are great. Very seldom have to be cleaned (stay white) no craking, out of round bubbling or anything. we probaly have 20,000 miles or so on them.

A little off topic, but for the guys that have wide whites that are brown and starting to crack there are things to keep them looking good. sos pads kick ***, and so does "bleech white" that you can pick up at the parts store. It says spray on and hose off, but if you spray it on and use a wire brush it will clean all of the dirt out of the cracks, then hose it clean. Both seem to get rid of the brown too, even on blackwall tires. Just figured I'd throw that into the pot...

Actually bleech white can contribute to the cracking problem from the get go....

40Studedude may have something to add to this? He had a new tire blow out at the Hamb drags but we weren't for sure if it was cut or if it was faulty.

I remember some old post about the bleach drying out the whitewall also. Someone mentioned that super green was better. So a degreaser like super green is okay, just avoid anything with bleach?

I never had a problem with the bleechwhite, but I only use it when it's needed, and I usually follow with a tire dressing, maybe that helps protect them.
