The Montana Boys have boken the record with 28 Dodge roadster Fast 4.Going for fuel Roadster next. Running Edgy Head & Cam.Earl was there to see it. Record was 111.4 now 115.7.Well done!
I guess the fast 4 can handle more RPM's than the ford 4 cyl., has 1 more main bearing. Earl Edgerton is a genius with those Mopar flatheads. One of his friends has a pickup with a flathead and a J style valve setup, fuel injected, forgot where I saw it but it was cool.
UP DATE! They changed gears and ran it in Gas Roadster end went 117 on a 110 record. The car is in in pound, will make next run 7:00 am.Then to modified roadster.
I believe they were entered in Street Roadster. Dodge has two more mains than a Ford. And at the time the Fast Four was being built Dodge Bros. Had nothing to do with Chrysler Corp or MoPar. Now that Pete is faster than my Plymouth (MoPar) V4F I need to get some real work done on the Dodge. Of course I'm planning on cheating. Rocker arms and all that. Those guys do some really neat stuf
Its pretty kool...I got the e-mail earlier and forwarded to a few friends...Congrats to everyone involved!!
This will be interesting. Ford guys hate when other cars beat them. I hope Petes roadster is as large or larger than a '28 Ford roadster in all diminsions. A '27 Ford roadster cannot run in Roadster cl***. It can run as a Street Roadster or a Modified Roadster. But not as a Gas or Fuel Roadster. Don't blame me. I don't make the rules. So you can bet guys with model A roadsters will be all over Petes car with tape measures.
This just in,Pedro said the car is in inpound for the 3rd. record, with a speed of 119. Just think, this all started in the bar in the ba*****t of the Nugget 3 years ago. After lots of adult beverages.A bet was made and here we are.WOW.
Here's HRM article http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/hrdp_0903_1928_dodge_bros_victory_six_roadster/index.html
I don't know Rich...it looks pretty close, but we old timers know that close doesn't cut it in the SCTA. I can remember when Ron Main's '29 was kicked out because it didn't have the dash rail and windshield post mounting area. He was so pissed he went home and built his Flatfire Streamliner. No body rules in that cl***!
For info google moparmagazineedgy and that will tell the story about the boys. Most of the story. Also hot rod did a story too.
Great job! I know how hard it is to get 1 or 2 mph, what they have done is "smashed" the record. Well done!
It sure looks good and by now Dan has had a couple of chanches to look it over. Still, last year there was some talk of outlawing the Dodge flathead four because of the advantage of five mains. Ford guys do not like being beat. I am sure that now some of them are wishing they had pushed that harder. Speaking of records my XOB/GAlt record from 1980 is no more. Salt Cat went 175 on my 168 record. A Buick inline eight powered Jag sedan of all things. Well done guys.
Taked to Pedro this morning. They lost the MGR & MFR .But they are in impound again for STR .They bumped it 2 MPH and trying for 120.They are beat! I think this is the last day.Been a long week.
Pedro email this morning .Car was in impound going to bump the V4F/SR up one more time. They are going home with V4F/SR 114+ V4F/GR 116+ V4F/FR 118+ Nice job ,Well done to all.And to Earl For making the head & cam.( Edgy Speed ) They are on there way home for some R&R.
Wow, thanks for all the kind words guys! Official results have been posted on the SCTA/BNI website. We broke 4 records, one which we set early in the week (V4F/STR) so we're currently holding 3 records. Could not be more excited! The car drove incredibly, the motor ran without a hiccup, and the crew was really in tune this year. V4F/STR 115.681 (Pedro driving) V4F/GR 116.396 (Chris King driving) V4F/FR 117.597 (I was driving) EJ Engler ran the car in V4F/GMR and run 119.3 - within 0.3 mph of the record before it was upped by Nelson and Creel the day before.
