I found a pretty descent Triumph over the weekend and am wondering if its a good deal. The bike itself isn't very clean. Kind of grungy really but it runs like a mofo. It took a couple of kick to get it started, but then I saw the gas and could see it was old as hell, and was more than likely the reason for the late start. Anyhow the bike belonged to the owners son and he had tried to make a chop out of it. Everything is stock (even the electicals) except for a some crappy ape hanger and a tall sissybar. Would 2k be too much for this bike? It hard to find a good running Triumph in the D/FW area with out spending a mint, so I'm curious if this would be a good deal.
what year is it? pre-unit or unit? oil-in-frame? i thought you were already building a triumph chopper, how's that coming along? don't forget i want my chopper guide back someday-george
Its a 72 oil in frame. 650 tiger. Yeah I got tired of messing with the chop for a little while, so I raced some YSR's, built a few RC cars, and then got hot and heavy on the chop again. I'm fixing to get all the paint done then it should be on the road. I'll send you some pics when I get the chance. You were serious about the guide?? I hope you dont mind if its been "flagged" (Seinfeld reference)! Just kidding, I'll send it back to ya. Very informative I must say. This bike I'm asking about is going to be a cafe.
dont waste yor time on oil-in-frame bikes.. there crap. there good if you like spending a lot of money and never geting it back.
I think OIF Triumphs make excellent cafe bikes. I don't particulary like the OIF design either, but if you slap on some clubmans, a cafe-style seat, and some rearsets, you'll have a really cool bike to run around on. If it really does run good and will clean up pretty well, then 2K seems reasonable to me. I'll agree that it most likely won't be a "money making investment", but I'd think you could at least get your money back out of it when you got ready to sell it.

I Hope the paint that you have to wait for it to dry to get it on the road is the kind that comes out of a can.....
Very true Yorgatron, I didnt think of that....I'm gonna go wash my hands. No forreal I'll put it in the mail in the next couple of day. I'll need to make a copy first. Hey goose, yeah it will be out of the can. I've seen your bike on the Fuck boards. Great looking biek man. I love it! Here are a couple pics of mine a few weeks ago. I was having problems with the springer, btu now have it all worked out. Oh, and I know some of ya'll dont like Trumps with springers, but what can I saw, other that I like 'em!
And one more! IF someone can make these bigger, that would be great. Oh, and I'm not running this fender, I'm using a ribbed one I got from yorgatron!
a lot of people slam OIF's (including me to some degree) - but they really are Triumphs best handling frame and do make awesome cafe bikes and stockers. I've only seen a handful of good looking OIF chops, though. A while back this dude brought in a hideous OIF bike that he wanted us to make into a mild cafe style bike. We rebuilt her and hot rodded the engine. This thing is a rocket that handles like a muthafuck! Here's the before picture:
2k is OK if the motor is really good, but remember it costs almost that much to blueprint one. The OIF bikes steer and handle well, I guess chopper guys don't care too much about that though. Mine is 363 pounds and 52HP, lot better power to weight ratio than the hottest flathead in a 2000 pound roadster...and the Triumph twin motor was drawn when the flathead was new. Haw. Mine has modern discs and calipers, a good move. Great bikes that can be ridden hard.
