i was wondering what car front clip would fit my 1948 chevy ad truck. i know you can put an s10 frame under it i don't want to. also i don't have the money for a mustang II so dont recomend it. id rather have a front clip. please be specific on the car (name/year).thanks
i can't most s10 came with a v6 or a 4 cylinder id have to buy a v8 adapter transmission adapter and a new rear axle because s10 axles cant handle a v8
I'm glad to hear that. I'll stop putting S10 rear axles behind V8 engines, now that I know they won't hold up.
Why not go to a wrecking yard, pick up the front clip only with the motor/trans already gone, then change the springs to the D94/sport suspension springs or newer Xtreme springs, get a quick ratio Xtreme steering box, front sway bar..................then get JEGS/Summitt motor mounts, put in your SBC and pick whever trans you want or whatever comes with a motor you find..................fab transmember yourself and put in a 57 Chevy rearend.............................simple and will stand up to anything short of blower motor. I built a 48 Chevy like this some years ago for a friends son and it is still on the road. Depending on how much HP you talking about make sure you check the frame for cracks and don't use the stock upper shock mounts.
LOL. There are so many S10's out there, you can find a cheap beat up one that already has a V8 in it. It is an easy and very common swap. The 4.3L V6's in many S10's are essentially a SBC minus front 2 cylinders. These trucks were virtually built for SBCs. I'm not exactly sure, but I think a 70-81 F-body subframe(Camaro/Firebird) have been used and came stock with I6's, SBC's, BBC's, and even a V6 in later years.
I have a 1971 Camaro front stub under my 1954 Chevy Panel, Not a real bad job to complete. Suspension and brake parts are easy to come by. An old set of Crager wheels and 235/60R15 rubber fits great. CJ
ROFL really? i mean, REALLY? thats rich man. please note, that not only are you WAY off base, i said just use the front stub... nothing about the engine, trans or rear and yes, i guess i'll need to tell my brother Whitey he needs to take the s-10 rear out of his rambler cause the small block he's got is gonna break it
I used a 73-87 chevy 1/2ton front end under my truck. It bolts to the stock frame with a 1/2 inch spacer on each side. the later years have some metric stuff so stick to the earlier years. This is the easiest swap to do without haveing to hack off your frame and graft a clip from another vehicle on. makes it much easier haveing the stock frame there when you re mount your front sheetmetal. You then will have front disk brakes, power steering and its far cheaper to lower it the right way than buying a MII setup. PM me if you want some pictures of what it looks like. C.L.
I ran a first series Camaro Stub on my 48 for Several years. There is quite a bit of fabricating to make it fit right though. One of my buds has an early Chevelle stub under his 48 but he had to modify most of the front inner fenders and radiator support. AMC Pacer can be made to work but it is way wide. Also about as hard to find as chicken teeth now. I am going to put one of Welder Series http://www.welderseries.com/blog/ Trucks on Spike TV is going to put one under their project truck early next month. As I have two complete stock MII front ends out in my shed I am going to run the factory Ford pieces instead of the spendy aftermarket pieces. Not fancy or glamorous but pretty reliable and easy to get replacement parts for. There are still bolt in aftermarket MII crossmembers out there that only require a half inch electric drill, hand full of hand tools and tape measure to install. Not the cheapest but probably the easiest. The greatest skill required is being able to measure accurately. You can run The stock MII pieces with those to save a stack of cash. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
