Hey guys, long time no post, so I've sold my 58 Olds to a buddy and picked myself up a 62 Caddy 2dr hdtp, I am in love with a new woman. Been spending some time cleaning it up fixing some running issues and doing all the steps to getting her into safe road worthy mode, car has come a long way in just a couple weeks from where it was BUT I have a question for all you paint type guys.
So far the car is running great (especially in comparison to how it was running) and all the wrinkles are coming out. Like anyone aside from the mechanical portions I would like to spruce her up cosmetically on but on the cheaper side of things for now until I get everything worked out mechanically and know I'm not gonna be rebuilding a tranny or engine in the near future.
Basically the only thing that's really unsightly on the car is right down the center of the beltline someone at some time had put a stick on chrome strip, bad, yes, but even worse at some point later someone decided to tear it off without heat or any release agents leaving a mess of old glue and peeled paint. I got all the glue off and it made a huge difference but there are still the peeled paint marks that are right there smack dab in the middle of the car and it really sucks!!!!! I have drawn up a design with some scallops/flames that isn't too crazy but will cover that beltline nicely and make her a little more pleasing to the eye as I get everything else sorted out.
That all being said I was wondering what kind of options you guys would suggest to give this a shot (I know I won't be getting a pro looking job and if it turns out like shat I'm still in the same boat the car has to be painted one day anyway) I'd just like to try it myself and see what kind of results I can get. I've been checking out other posts about the Lil Roth flake in a can (Alex's PM is full so I haven't been able to talk to him but think I may just drop the long distance dime and have a chat with him) and have been experimenting a little with some other stuff in the garage at home. Would like to see what you guys have done for a low-buck get you through option for a car with some crappy paint spots while you get everything else sorted out.
Thanks in advance (I've posted a pic of the car as well, since this pic I've got some factory Caddy wires on it with knock off spinners and am really falling in love with this car!!!!!!)

    Hey,

Why don't ya jus' plan on a spot/blend repair of the painted areas for now?
It looks like a light based colour so a match shouldn't be a biggie! Later, after all the mechanicals are behind you , ya can plan on a full kustom panel job with flake and candy etc. Caddies of that era look killer with panel jobs!

That was originally what I thought of doing. But then got the idea to try something a little different, really all I'm looking for is one summer, the car will only be used a couple days of the week and out of the elements for the most part. I guess it's one part wanting to have it looking a little better than it does and one part wanting to try my hand at something new. I've always been interested in paint, have done stuff on other cars I owned but was younger and didn't have the patience or the benefit of the internet and forums like this, and figure doing this job myself even with rattle cans if it comes to that will at least give me some experience with the prep process and a chance to try a layout I think would look cool on the car with something more than photoshop. From there I'd like to get to trying some small projects with actually mixing product and using pro equipment.
Basically I know the car is going to get a full repaint in the not too distant future and am willing to throw a few bucks at it to give something home done a shot to say I did. Kinda like rebuilding my first motor when I was a kid.
I have come up with a way of doing it (I will post some pics of the results I have on some scrap as soon as I get some). Like I said I know it won't be a pro job but should look half decent.
