My grandfather recently purchased a 1956 Buick Century 4DR., the motor currently in it is a cadillac motor, from what Bill (the guy we bought it from) said. Bill did give us the original motor and transmission to the car right now it sits on the floor in our garage, not sure what cubic inch of the original motor is but know its a v8. So any help we can get to help us identify the cadillac engine that sits in the car now that be great, I was looking at motor earlier to try and find numbers on block to read them but was unsuccessful. thanks alot, also if anybody can point me in the right direction where to look on the block to find numbers.
With the hei That is either a 75/76 5oo Cad or a 77-79 or so 425 Cad. The 500 is pretty desirable and good trading material if you don't want to run it. The 425's are pretty good too but have a lighter casting in the block than the big inch engine. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
look at the back of the block, top center, just in front of the transmission, behind the oil sender unit, should be a casting number. If it's 1609110 then it's a 77-79 425.
Just curious - what's the drive train like? Converted to open driveshaft or does it still have the stock torque tube? If still torque tube, what transmission?
to my knowledge the whole drivetrain currently in the car is cadillac, i know for sure that the differential is not using stock torque tube it is open drive shaft, not 100% sure on transmission I'll find out, I'll also have to check those numbers on block to find out for sure if its 475 or 502
