    fuel starvation?

had one with a kinked hose under the cab where the tank line connects to the line going forward....also the sock in the tank (if it's still there) could be plugged

high rpm in low gear is probably not full throttle, eh? takes a while for the carb to drain, then it'll act up.

I've encountered fuel starvation problems, they generally only show up at highway speed in high gear (or in lower gear at full throttle).

Another possiblity is the wire from the dist to the coil being frayed/loose/shorting. Had that happen too, the 235 vacuum advance rotates the whole distributor, so the wire moves around.

that could be possible too but I had the plug wire at the coil though, it was not in the hole at the top just barely in the rub grommet.

gotta watch out for them gremlins

Bad points will act like a fuel system problem. A bad condenser will do the same. I have learned this the hard way a couple times. Even a new condenser can be bad if the wire is crimped to the capacitor lead. You won't see it, but definately use Blue Streak or something else of high quality.

There are many causes for those symptoms...and it's usually hard to figure out just which it is. could be a bad coil, dist cap, wiring, switch, resistor, as well as lots of things in the fuel system. The key is that it's a problem that happens under load, so something is working most of the time, but not as well as it should be.

93% of carburetor problems are caused by the ignition system....
