There was a thread on here not long ago where a guy made his custom grill from new repop VW guards mounted on a cut down new repop VW bumper. Pretty cheap for all brand new stuff and looked great. Anybody got the link?

Mine, 54 pontiac centre, custom spun bullets tigged on and blended in, and modified original end pieces. I think it looks sweet...apparently the 54 grilles are worth big bucks..

One of my buddies was almost going to use a '53 Buick grill and bumper.

  16. x3 for the '54 Pontiac; Lowsquire's is especially bitchin'. (And what could be more traditional??)

  17. I think the 54 Poncho grille looks the best. I've also seen them with 54 Chevy grilles with extra teeth. And the corvette grille would actually probably be the cheapest as you can by reproductions for around $400 all new.

I'm keeping track of these ideas since I can't decide on a grill for my 50 either. Some good ones so far...

  20. IMHO, the pontiac grille doesn't look quite right, I started to put in my 51 and changed my mind once I mocked it up. Issue for me was that its pretty straight in the center and the hood and surround are peaked looks odd to me, it just doesn't flow so well. the fix if using the Pontiac grille bar would be to cut it in the center and created a matching peak to the hood and have it just in front of the hood and not tucked into the cavity as most are done. If you look at Lowsquires post and then compare that to any stock 49-51 grille you'll see the missing peak on the pontiac.

If you really want a bolt-in grille search for a 51 Meteor (Canadian Ford) really believe that's the grille that made people start using the Pontiac grille.

I Have been talking to some people around the shop we thought about making one I have an endless supply of any metal but my fabricating skills are sketchy. That pontiac grill is awsome Im kinda up in the air still about the grill its one of those details that can really make or break your car.

  25. One more consideration; a '55 Ford grille. Had one in my '54 convert.; thought it looked
pretty good. Grille surround is very similar to the '51.....

I agree on that Meteor grille; It looks like a little Merc grille. It's an easier swap if you have the grille surround too. I don't have the surround, but I do have a Meteor grille that's going on a chopped and sectioned '50 Ford. I'll either use that or a spare stock '51 Ford grille. I'll have a better idea when I get to that project. Right now I'm still collecting parts for it.

  27. You ain't foolin' anybody! That's a Benz! My uncle's cousin's girlfriend's girlfriend's
gay lover had one just like it....except it was a 3-door station wagon with fins and two tone paint and the grill was different.

  28. X2 That is a simple and clean looking grill.

Heres one for you, its out of a Canadian 49-50 Monarch, 3 SS bars with Chrome white metal vertical bars which are easily removed. The original mounting brackets can be used and it is almost a bolt in item for your grill cavity. P.S. If you are interested I know where there are a couple. Larry

  30. Junk monger the 49-50 meteor are the ones that look like the Merc waterfall style grille, again they truly look right. The 51 meteor grille is very similar to the 54 pontiac grille. For me the pontiac grille looks great coming right at you. centers into the cavity just perfect, but at any angle you will notice that its pretty flat across the front where everything on the 51 ford peaks out in the center. wouldn't take much to pie cut it in the center to make it right, just look at the posted pictures to see what I'm trying to describe.

However be ready to spend bigbucks for either Meteor grille, they're rare here and even rare north of the border and that in itself makes them highly desired.
