I have anice 50 chevy coupe , just added the header and two carb set up from patricks. I dont want to chop it , i have put power disc brakes with a dropped spindle and lowered the back with blocks , i am wanting to de trim it for more of a custom look and change the grill up a little. Give some ideas.since these pics i have changed the wheels to chrome smoothies and removed the skirts. i want to remove the door handles and nose and deck it also.

I *wish* mine looked like yours....wanna trade? ;)

Seriously, you car looks beautiful and I wouldn't take off the trim. I think there are ways you can give it a custom look and stay cl***y at the same time (pure cl***y being where it's at right now). Perhaps doing a grill/bumper swap on the front and back, there's a host of grills that would look cool in there. If you pull the trim off, you'll have to fill the holes and repaint, so opposed to that, you could two tone it with a different color on the lid. HOWEVER, should you decide you want to part with the trim....let me know, I'll take it off your hands! :)

Pics of how it is now?

I think it looks great in the above pics!
If you remove the trim,I think it would be too "plain" with the color it is.

The next thread you'll start will be a photoshop request for a color change and a flaked roof!

    Hey Buddy Holly,

Just my opinion of course, but I'd recommend 2 things:

    1) Put it right back like this .....
    ..... and don't change a thing.
(I'm usually not a big fan of lakes pipes, but they work OK on your ride.)

    2) Don't take any airplane rides with friends!

    Nice Chevy .... I'm jealous!:D

First off, I think it looks great as is!...but I think we all know that we cant leave anything well enough alone; working on these cars is (atleast) half the fun!
So if I were you I'd look to Larry Watson's G****vine for inspiration... it is one beautiful un-choped custom 50 chevy.

For once I wouldn't change a thing except maybe buy some more custom looking hubcaps to swap out on occasion.

For the price of swapping grills that may or may not look right you could buy a couple of sets of "custom" hubcaps and several tanks of gas and change the personality of the car at will.

There are some cars that look perfect just the way they are and that one is for sure one of them.

Man, I love your coupe. One of the ***iest cars ever to roll of the line!

Something really mild would suit the bill I think. Have you had a chance to grab the current issue of HOT ROD Deluxe? Theres a coupe in there in the Round Up coverage that looks just perfect (I think anyways)

No chop (these cars just look so good!)
Static drop (I'm not much for cars that lay rocker)
Shave some chrome (less is more!)
Full tuck 'n roll interior (travel in style!)
nose and deck (makes a statement when your coming, and when your going)
I dig those caps, they suit the car. Hell, I even like the paint!

But that's just me, and I like simple, sanitary cars.

Man, I'd have to leave this one the way it is. Looks nice and clean, simple. Got any pics of it with the chrome wheels?

    Listen to timebomb!

He's a guy that really knows what he's talking about!

It's to bad he deprived Canada of a cool, cl***y custom by moving to SOCAL

  15. Olds grille bar, or Corvette grille, 49 plymouth deluxe bumpers maybe? I'd hide the antenna too. I dig the trim and the door handles. Maybe nose and deck?

stash that one away in the garage and find another one the "customize" to your personal tastes. my cousin has a 50' coupe that has mild custom treatments and at a show people stand and scratch their heads about what the mods are. gets really interesting when a 100% stocker is parked next to it. changing that car would make you sorry one day and why not have 2. let the wife drive it and maintain it.

check out teddyp here on the hamb. perfect unchopped chevy kustom. i'm a big fan of chopped tops but still believe a car can be done just right without a chop. good luck and whatever you decide make sure it's what you like!

Really nice car ... lose the weird chrome things on the headlights, the chrome thing on the gas filler and drive it as it is.

  23. '49-'52 Chevys are really hard to change the grille and make look good after. You almost have to come up with something and build an entire new opening for it. I've seen a lot of them done and most of them just don't look right.

I tend to agree with the guys who say don't change a thing, it looks pretty nice just like that. Maybe the nose, deck, and shave the handles if you have to do anything. It wouldn't be hard to change the taillights, either.

I would leave that one as is. Except for the head light trim and fuel trim also. That is a really nice car to start hacking it up. Find one that is in need of paint and tear into it.
