I'm looking to putting bags on my 54 p/u and I'm pulling my hair out. There's actually to much info out there. I just want to raise and lower my truck, not play with it. I was wondering if the 1/4 under the dash set ups are going to be strong enough? I don't care about speed. I have re7 slam bags if that matters. Also if that wont work what would be good valves to go with?
Not a lot of "baggers" here on this site. You might want to try hotrodders.com or something similar for that - good luck.
Size of line will only make difference in speed bags inflate/deflate. I run 3/8 on most set ups. A friend has had 1/4" on his 53 pontiac for years no problem. IN the front don't T front bags together run seperate lines and valves. as for when you turn pressure will then stay same in each side.
what kind of front suspension are you running? Do a search here on bags-will find sites listed so that you can see what a bag system needs to include, etc.
I used 1/2" all the way around (it's a pickemup) !/2 is fine for the front on the up-stroke with all the weight but I had to slow down the down stroke ALOT I choked it down to less than a 1/4" on the way out. Being a pickup the 1/2" would bounce the tires off the ground without the bed on it and with the bed would rattle the teeth outta your head....I choked it down to 1/4" in and out... I'm running RE6's up front and RE7's in back twin viair 380C's on 9 gallons works a treat, specially if you dont play with it....I set it and forget it till I get where I'm going.... there's alot of guys that bag on bags round here, but alot of guys that use em and don't mention it....I for one use em and mention it, I'm full fendered and all my **** is hidden, granted you can't mask the sound of the compressors....but you cant have it all... I put mine on not for the novelty factor, rather the roads here in J-ville are first cl*** ****....my static drop got me in alot of trouble and I couldnt drive it where I wanted...I put the bags on to get higher, not lower....
Thanks. Thats what I wanted to know. I think I'm going to pay the extra money to go to 3/8. The 1/4 stuff I was looking at was airbagit.com and seems that everyone thinks their junk. This stuff is to expensive to buy twice.
Most people that are into the airbags want the faster setup, my friend ran 1/4 inch stuff on his f150 and it works great just not a quick up and drop which will be rough by the way. you can always buy the big valves and choke them down to 1/4 " if you dont like it. but if you buy the 1/4 inch stuff your stuck with it. i really think you will like the 1/4" better it dont beat the heck out of your truck. also airbaggit.com has a manual valve guage set up for 170 that looks pretty sweet no wiring!
one suggestion dont buy from airbaggit, or AIM. ive had great luck w/ suicidedoors.com, you can even call and talk to someone that builds air suspensions and actually knows what he is talking about. they also have some good prices, very compe***ive and will build you a kit for what you need. check them out you wont be dissapointed
I have 1/4 inch lines on my Caddy and they seem to be plenty fast enough and I don't have any problems getting this beast off the ground, and it probalbly weighs around 4500 lbs.
Try a York belt-driven compressor. More air than you'll ever need, almost silent, and about $100 for a reman at Auto Zone. I'll never run a noisy electric compressor again.
What he said, and yes suicidedoors.com is the place to go. They are great guys and have everything you need.
I use old MIC manuals on everything I run bags on, but if you want the really sweet old school look get some ****erfly valves from an airbag jack like they use on frame machines. They are 3/8 orifice and fit 1/2" fittings/line. I have an engine driven york on my bagged galaxie, it takes about 20 seconds to fill the tank from slap empty. I'll never go back to buzzy compressors.
I would love to get my hands on Some good manual valves. I did a quick search but all the manual ones look kinda junky. Anyone have 4 extras they would be willing to come off of?
Hotrodders.com? Seriously? I went to baggers.com but only found a college course for learning the Trade needed for working at a grocery store.
