Here’s my 41 ford truck project, what would start off as a simple clean up has become more of a major redo. But then again isn’t that how all projects start? For the last couple of years I have been contemplating some updates on the truck. To begin with The 41 has been in the family since 1965,that is when my father purchased it from a gas station. Well it has gone through some changes since then! In 1980 I tore the tuck apart had it acid dipped as it had over 15 coats of paint on it. (Acid dipping was the thing back then). I had some body work completed on it and put the Truck back together with some upgrades for the time. A Vega steering box, tilt wheel, disc brakes, and got rid of the 3 speed and put in a 350 tranny. I was young and proud of my 41, still am proud of it!
So fast forward through the kids, a couple of house's, life, and 29 years! And of course My lovely Wife who has stood by my through thick and thin WOW!
I have been talking to Choped50 ford (On the HAMB) on and off for about a year regarding some rust repairs I wanted to have done and I finally bite the bullet and dove in head first!
So here is what I started with

    <?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shape id=_x0000_i1040 style="VISIBILITY: visible; WIDTH: 468pt; HEIGHT: 351pt; mso-wrap-style: square" alt="DSCF6657.JPG" type="#_x0000_t75"><v:imagedata o:title="DSCF6657" src="file:///C:\Users\AE\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image003.jpg">[IMG]</v:imagedata></v:shape>
    <O:p></O:p>
I blew the truck apart for the rust repair, and sent it over to Chopped50’s place. Well like I said one thing leads to another, and although we had gone over the items I wanted done, once I began I figured might as well do this or that, so Norm has assisted in getting the truck to the stage it is in today which I will show you soon! Chopped 50 pointed out a few things that I didn’t realize needed attention as well, which will make the truck all the more sound once completed.
Here is the Truck at choped50’s place and some of the work he has done on it.

Unknown to me one of the mounting tabs on the steering box had broken. Norm saw it and fixed it! Good eye Norm!

Norm also found that the motor mount had a crack in it and fixed that as well. As you can see there really was a need to do some work on the 41.

I had Norm replace the cross member supports since the frame was bare and it would be now or never!

The rear-end was set up in the early 70’s, you can see how they did it back then. The welding was a little rough so I had Norm clean up the welds and lay a couple of good beads on it.

Here’s the bare frame, I hadn’t planned on taking the 41 down this far but as I said earlier one thing leads to another.

Some of the rust that I had planned on having repaired. You can see how much rust had attacked the bottom of the door.

Another view of the door rust

The door bottom cut out and waiting for its new lower patch to be completed

The door once the patch was completed and welded in.

The truck has progressed a long way, I have a lot more build pics to go here, as time permits I will update this thread. We are currently at the COlor stage im just having a hard time dialing in the color. I know what I want, I have a code that is a good begining but the paint store seems to be having trouble with it.
any local help in the paint dept?

Looks like the rear end setup would promote frame flexing. Yes?

Yes I got rid of the fruit jar! I had this set up on a shelf for another project but figured I would stick it in the Truck! The thing is now the pedal feels soft to me and not catching high enough. I need to figure out if its me or I have a problem im not seeing yet.....

You need to shorten that bed about 6" to realy show the chop.

Sad to say I was working real hard to have it ready for labor day and gave up just before the weekend as there was no way I was going to rush it and skimp on workmanship.
since then I have finished the wiring with the exception to a issue im having with the brake lights and turn signals. the wiring is correct , I beleive it is an issue with the turn signal switch.
I still need to install front and rear windows, align the front sheet metal, finish the fender welting, and a few other things. nothing major just need motivation and a little help with the front sheet metal. its real close I need to get back at it and finish!
    AGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone want to swing by and give me a hand??? Ill buythe food and drink of choice.......
